I had an early ultrasound at 5 weeks 5 days, my notes say right collapsing corpus luteum, is it normal to be collapsing? I'm worrying myself sick. Thanks

Probably not a probl: What is collapsing is the cyst that developed from the corpus luteum. Corpus luteum cysts are common in early pregnancy. I don't think there is good evidence that the collapse or rupture of a corpus luteum cyst will have much effect on the pregnancy. As long as the corpus luteum keeps working and producing progesterone, your pregnancy will usually continue normally. ...Read more

Can late ovulation be caused by leftover corpus luteum cysts from the previous cycle?

Can late ovulation be caused by leftover corpus luteum cysts from the previous cycle?

Yes: Sometimes the ovary does not ovulate and the follicle cyst persists. It will continue to enlarge and can become as big as a baseball. Eventually it will break and the woman may not even be aware that this has happened. The period may be delayed because there is no Progesterone phase of the cycle to respond to. The corpus luteum can also become cystic. ...Read more

How do I know if I had a follicular cyst or a corpus luteum cyst.?

Unnecessary to know: They are two phases of the same thing. An ovarian follicle should rupture releasing an egg. If this doesn't happen, the follicle keeps enlarging turning into a cyst. The ruptured follicle is called the corpus luteum. If the escape opening seals off, fluid can accumulate causing a corpus luteum cyst. An ultrasound may determine which you have but it isn't important to know; they act the same. ...Read more
