Proof is in numbers: COPD is diagnosed by a fixed obstructive ratio fev1/fvc of < .70. Above that no COPD and below it is copd. Severity of obstruction is assessed by your fev1 in comparison to other men of same age, height, weight, and ethnicity. Most with COPD with fev1< 50% may have disability.
