Excellent treatments: There are excellent treatments available depending on severit. Simple social phobia or stage fright or performance anxiety can be treated with cig tube behavior therapy (cbt) involving imagery and extinction or repeated practice. Low dose benzodiazepines or Propranolol is helpfull. Generalized social phobia is better treated with ssri medications with cbt. Don't give up !: Many people who have the issues which you describe have tried to get help more a few times before they connect and and are able to be supported and feel better. So there is no reason to give up. Speak with your medical doctor or surgeon and ask for a referral. What dose?: Before you stop what you are on now, your doctor should be considering whether you are on an appropriate (therapeutic) dose and whether you have been on that dose long enough to have been able to give it a fair trial. All the ssri's have the potential to help with social anxiety; a given individual may do better with one than another. Paxil (paroxetine) may work better, but then again so might zoloft. ...Read more
