Anemia: At your age, the blood loss from hemorrhoids, in additional to menstrual blood loss would predispose your to getting iron deficiency anemia. When you see your doctor discuss it with her/him. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

HYDRATE: I suspect you are under hydrated. The colon's function is to pull excess fluid from the body waste. If you are under hydrated, your stool will become very firm. Routinely incomplete: Primary driver diverticuli is constipation, delaying emptying (not straining) & largely subconscious. Straining just another symptom, after the fact & occasional. Many factors involved in constipation including lack of activity, low fiber (soluble fiber binds water slowing colon re-absorption), etc. Docs don't know everything, medical advice usually oversimplified/incomplete, usual human behavior! ...Read more

Depends: If you get side effects, you get them. Every patient is different. If you aren't already, you should be on fiber supplements 2-3 times a day, plenty of fluids (apple juice is wonderful) and lots of fruit and veggies. Use vaseline down below. If you still struggle, you have to weight the benefit of the medicine vs the problems it causes. Many have stopped Amitriptyline due to the contstipation. ...Read more
