Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

I'm 19 wks gestation, my first baby, I've complete placenta previa, previously2 D&c, 2 hysteroscopy What is my chance to reach term? IO dilat. Is 6 mm.

Placenta previa: I'm just a pediatrician, so I can't give you exact percentages of getting to term with a complete previa, but the odds are not good. That doesn't mean you can't have a great kid! . It's time to talk to maternal-fetal medicine specialist about when and how to limit workload, intercourse and when to think about steroids to enhance maturation of baby's lungs. Every day you stay pregnant is a win... ...Read more

I was just diagnosed with placenta previa. I'm 15 weeks. Will my baby survive and what am I looking at for the rest of my pregnancy?

You'll be okay: Placenta previa at 15 weeks is VERY common. You'll have another "formal" ultrasound at 18-20 weeks during which your doctor/ultrasonographer will look at all of baby's anatomy, and the placenta again. Sometimes placenta previas move out of the way of cervix as uterus grows. Even if it doesn't all you have to do is NO intercourse or orgasms. Go to L&D if have bleeding. Follow all doctors' instruct ...Read more

Is low lying placenta the same as placenta previa? At 28 weeks what are the risks/how dangerous is it? How will it affect rest of pregnancy and birth?

Is low lying placenta the same as placenta previa? At 28 weeks what are the risks/how dangerous is it? How will it affect rest of pregnancy and birth?

Not the same...: A low lying placenta is when it is close to the cervix, but not covering it like a previa does. The risk of either is bleeding, esp. Once in labor. But a low lying placenta is much more likely to move up the side of your uterus & out of the way prior to this. Your dr. Will follow this with serial ultrasounds until then. Probably smart to avoid intercourse & to report any bleeding until clear. ...Read more

This medication. .: Is not recommended in pregnancy. But if you have been taking it already for the first 21 weeks, your doctor must have felt the benefits outweighed the risks in your particular situation. I'm O+, my husband is AB+. What's the likelihood of our baby having neonatal anemia? High risk pregnancy w/ maternal anemia and planned c-section cutting through anterior placenta previa.

Possible: There is some possibility of an A/O or B/O reaction with jaundice and hemolytic disease but that part of this is usually minor and easy to manage. An OB with quick hands can limit the other issue. I would try to relax and figure out what your life will be like with 3 kids running around. ...Read more

Why is there bleeding with placenta previa?

Why is there bleeding with placenta previa?

Leaky vessels: Previa: Placenta overlies the cervix/birth canal. Gr 1 means placenta is close, Gr 4 means it's directly overlying/blocking the baby's exit -- high chance of preterm labor & bleeding; you'd need a C/S at 36-37wks. More common in woman w/ hx of C/S & smoking. Not much you can do but wait. If dx'ed early, the uterus still grows/stretches and a placenta can migrate away even in 3rd tri. Follow w/ US. ...Read more
