Im 8 weeks pregnant & my prenatals are causing constipation from the iron. Are the childrens or adult gummy vitamins ok? Some of them lack calcium etc.
Add fiber: Hi heather ~ the iron, as well as hormonal changes, are causing the constipation. Thus changing your vitamin is unlikely to solve your problem. Iron and Folic Acid are the most important elements of a prenatal vitamin. Try increasing your water intake, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and adding a fiber supplement (such as metamucil). ...Read more
How many time should a healthy adult, who drinks a lot of water go to the toilet. When do you know for sure its constipation and you need medication?
Hard difficult BM: Constipation is a hard, difficult, painful bowel movement. Drinking a lot of water helps but so would more fiber in your diet. The frequency of the bowel movement is not as important as the consistency and pain associated with the bowel movement. A easily passed bm every three days would not be considered constipation by most mds. ...Read more
What kind of foods are best for children with constipation problems. Yogurt vs Greek Yogurt, supplements or other? What foods are to be avoided?
Constipation: Probiotics are helpful, but I prefer a diet high in fiber. Think figs, prunes, sweet potatoes, whole grains (Multigrain Cheerios, breads), and just about any vegetable you can get them to eat. Greek yogurt is all the rage regarding fats, but I would simply just steer away from artificial flavors and colors (and let's not forget about high fructose corn syrup). I also like molasses. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Don't do it!: Uncertain--i can find no exact references in pubmed re: ingestion of baby oil. After giving a child the children's enema will the constipation not occur anymore After they've had a successful bowl movement ?
Don't bet on it: Enemas can relieve an outlet blocked by firm or large stools, but the reason they got that way may be a problem. Kids often retain stools because at some point it started hurting to go, so they decided they would avoid it. They can actually cause a ballooning of their colon that makes emptying less efficient. Some kids need a bowel rehab designed by a well trained pedi or pedi gastroenterologist. ...Read more
