Constipated Fleet Enema Dulcolax Try Next
If i'm still constipated after a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate) and dulcolax, what can I try next?
I have been really constipated for almost a week so I did fleet Enema (sodium bisphosphate). It worked great but I feel I may have squeezed it in too forcefully. ??
Constipation causes: Most cases of constipation are secondary to the diet. I noticed that you also listed that you also had low thyroid output. Best measure of that is TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). Don't eat constipating foods for a while( rice, barley, oatmeal) milk, bananas. It should do it. ...Read more
Which is better to relieve slight constipation due to eating too many vegetables, a hot water enema or a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate)?
Before self-treating: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full ; bloated. Had an x-ray to show you're not blocked? We don't know if your gut is sluggish or your rectum works correctly--these can be tested for (sitz marker study ; anal manometry, respectively). See below. : Good question. Fleets enema: commonly used ~4 oz saline laxative; sodium phosphate-based; can cause adverse reactions in certain individuals (age >55) with certain pre-existing conditions (e.g. dehydration, impaired kidney function, congestive heart failure, abnormal electrolytes) if used too often (>3 days or >1 dose/24 hrs). I recommend you ask your MD about proper dosing and alternatives. ...Read more
I toke two laxative two night ago an yesterday i felt sick so did a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate) an it only got small amount out i stay constipated?
Constipation: Not sure what laxative you used. Normally, i would recommend the patient to have adequate hydration, stay active with exercising, eat high fiber diet. In addition, add fiber supplement such as citrucel (one table spoon in 8 oz of water daily). If the above is not improved, add MiraLAX (otc, one table spoon in 8 oz of water, daily to bid). Other agents are linzess, amitiza (lubiprostone). Work close with drs. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins and had severe constipation. Is it safe to use a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate) and how often?
Constipation: Fleet enemas can be used safely in pregnancy but should not be your first choice for constipation. Constipation in pregnancy should be treated with the following, in this order: 1. Fiber supplement and increased hydration 2. Oral stool softener (like docusate) 3. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) or milk of magnesia, or other oral pro-motility agent 4. Rectal suppository (like bisacoidyl) 5. Enema (like fleets). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How often should I use an enema for constipation? Are the fleet enemas (sodium bisphosphate) ok twice a week?
See your doctor: See your doctor. You may gain sufficient benefit from increased fiber and fluid in your diet so that enemas won't be needed. However, a complete history and physical is crucial to exclude other causes of constipation such as hypothyroidism or anatomic problems. Enemas do have potential complications: I have cared for patients with rectal perforation after enemas. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Constipated for 3-4 days and have hemorrhoid. Dulcolax stool softener & preparation h cream doesn't help much. So painful when stool try to pass. Help?
May need surgery: If stool softeners don't help, the hemorrhoid could be thrombosed or clotted. The swelling can be very painful. You could possible have a fissure or tear and those are very painful as well. Other rx meds can possibly help or you may need surgery.
