How serious is constipation seen on CT scan with contrast? How long do I wait to go in if still no bowel movement?
Constipation: What was seen on the ct scan was fecal retention. Lots of stool in the colon. Seeing this on the ct does not make the constipation worse, it is the severity of your symptoms that determines the significance. Barium based contrast from the ct may be constipating. Drinking lots of fluids and eating fruits and vegetables for fiber can help get things moving. A stool softener like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) may help. ...Read more

After 6years of my goal bladder surgery I am still having irregular bowel movement, loose stool and constipation why/?
Dysbiotic Flora???: I would seriously look at the diet of food you are eating and also consider adding some supplements of probiotics. You should be evaluated by a doctor if you have not already to look at stomach issues. Often when you have both diarrhea and constipation this can indicate a low level of chronic inflammation in your intestinal tract. Sometimes supplements of digestive enzymes can help this problem. ...Read more

I have a back issue and am constipated. I took 4 colace (docusate sodium) stool softeners and still have not had a bowel movement, its been 3 days, should I try the?
Continue the colace (docusate sodium):
If you are taking pain medications for the back issue, you can become rather constipated due to them. Therefore I recommend that anyone taking narcotic pain meds regularly take a stool softener.
I'd recommend continuing the colace, (docusate sodium) make sure to drink plenty of water, and you can add one other over the counter medication to help you have a bm such as mineral oil, senna, or dulcolax. ...Read more
I've been on colace and miralax (polyethylene glycol) for about a week now and still no bowel movement. I was going before but ct scan showed I was constipated, since start?
Constipation: Easier/better to prevent constipation w/more fiber, fluids & exercise than to treat. Basics remain same tho: fiber supplements plus lots of water, then medications. Stool softeners then laxatives of various types. Colace is brand of docusate stool softener. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is brand of osmotic laxative that's safe enough that it's used as bowel prep. Try prune juice, magnesium, senna, bisacodyl or enema. ...Read more
6yr old girl stomach pains around belly button. No fever, mouthful of vomit. Extended tummy. Been constipated. Bowel movement today still sore. Worry?
Extended=distended?: Probably constipation/fecal impaction. Chronic constipation is not healed by one bowel movement. There could be some relief with lactulose, but you will need to consult for chronic treatment. Could also be mesenterial adenitis - although more likely if there was fever. Mesenterial adenitis normally due to viral infection - only symptomatic treatment. ...Read more

Careful: With taking excess fiber, as too much fiber along with inadequate fluids can make the constipation worse. Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) and a liquid diet only until passing stool is best. Then avoiding recurrent constipation requires 80-100 oz of caffeine free, alcohol free fluid daily with no more than 25 grams of fiber daily. If keeps recurring, you may need a colonoscopy if you haven't had one recently. ...Read more
I want to have bowel movement in morning. There is no constipation. The time varies. Please advise.
Might eating very small amounts throughout the day cause very few bowel movements or constipation?
Depends: As long as u include fruits, veggies & fiber it should help. Also u must remain well hydrated. The lower bowel or colon reabsorbs fluid from the toll & if ur body says hey I need water, the colon is going 2 respond by extracting more water & make u more constipated. Well hydrated can b seen in ur urine. If it is dark u need water, hydrate until almost clear. Dietitian consult would b a good idea. ...Read more
Pain in lower left side before bowel movement. Pain goes away when done. Have had recent constipation.?
Fluids, Fiber: Sounds like you've got hard stools, which can be painful. I suggest 1-2 tablespoons full of psyllium husks (Metamucil, Konsyl) in a glass of water. Drink it fast, as it will turn to sludge in your glass, otherwise. Follow with another glass of water. We should consume enough fiber to have an easy bowel movement at least once/day. If you need some stimulation, try magnesium--500-1, 000 mg/day. ...Read more
How can you get a normal bowel movement? What kind of diet? Some days I feel constipated and others ill really have to go.
How can I get myself to have normal daily bowel movements when I'm constipated and haven't had a normal bm in almost a month?
More fiber and water: You really need to review the foods you're eating daily -- this determines how well your bowel can function. You need plenty of vegetables, leafy greens, and fruits in your diet, along with plenty of water -- at least 8, 8 oz glasses of pure water daily. Probiotics are good, esp if containing >one strain of "good" bacteria. Consider seeing a nutritionist re possible food sensitivities also. ...Read more
