Constant Tickle In Throat Cough
My throat was extremely dry 2 weeks ago. Now it is just a constant tickle in my throat and cough drops don't help. I can't sleep. What do I do?
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Consider Papaya: Mild tickle in throat is often related to mild irritation from environmental allergens/irritants. When pain is not severe, consider trying papaya enzyme tablets. They are safe, natural and many of my patients relate symptomatic improvement in throat symptoms. If pain is progressive, persistent or associated with systemic symptoms such as fever, consider seeing your health care provider.
Antihistamines: The most common reason for having a throat tickle is allergy. You may or may not have runny/itchy eyes & nose with sneezing; but it is worth a try. Daily, non-sedating claritin, (loratadine) zyrtec, or Allegra should do the trick. This may be a seasonal thing, or may be year round. If it is more of a constant thing, then switch your daily antihistamine every 2-3 months to maintain the effect.

Antihistamine: Try OTC Antihistamine like Loratadine etc and keep an eye on the color of secretions if these turn to dark yellow or green you will need Antibiotics. Also try Mucinex (guaifenesin) DM for further symptomatic relief especially if difficulty with bringing up the sputum or significant cough.
I get post nasal drip maybe once a year. Why does a tickle in throat make me want to cough to relieve tickle? I also feel tickle in ear before cough.
I had 2 chest x-ray days apart and blood test x-rays are clear they listen sound clear they found nothing I have tickle in throat with little cough?
Question?: I presume you are asking for a diagnosis of the cause of tickle and cough. The chest X-rays & exam of the lungs are normal, as expected, since the problem is likely in your throat. Did anyone check a throat swab? Have you tried warm salt/sugar water gargles? If symptoms persist, see an ENT, but most of the time, it's viral or allergic causes that lead to these symptoms & it goes away on its own.
Diagnosed with pharyngitis 11 days ago. Fever is gone. Still have heavy cough with colored mucus, tickle in throat, shortness of breath and wheezing?
I have a tickling throat that makes me cough. This happens every night so what I can do about it?
Avoid menthol: Menthol which is in most drops, feels good and cool at first. But it is drying to the mucosa and will dry your irritated throat. So use glycerin instead. Or black currant. Or pectin containing drops.
My coughing is back something is tickling my throat in the back causing me to cough I am taking claritan but I don't thinwonders something else ASAP?
Might be the BP med: Lisinopril sometimes causes a persistent non productive dough. Ask your doctor to look into this.
? reflux: If this only happens every night when you lay down to go to bed - this sound like it is most likely being caused by gastroesophageal reflux. Would probably be helped most by seeing an ENT doc to look down your throat to see - and if the appearance of your vocal corsds confirms this possibility, then seeing a gastoenterologist for complete work-up and treatment.
My throat has been bothering me for a couple days. There is no pain, just tickling when I clear my throat, a cough and a scratchy voice. Any ideas?
Phlegm in back of throat sometimes it feels like something tickling in my throat and sometimes it makes me cough and doesn't go away slight heaache?
Throat problems: Your problems sound as if you need to see a ENT physician. You need to have your throat, lower esophagus, vocal cords and sinuses evaluated to see if a cause for your symptoms can be found and treated. Good luck.
I have been coughing brown mucus as well as tingling sensation in my chest and throat when I breathe. My cough hurts as well. Is there anything wrong?
See a doctor: Yes, it sounds like you have a respiratory infection. Given the brown mucus and effects on breathing, it is recommended you follow-up with your physician for further assessment.
I got a 101 fever about 2 weeks ago. That went away after a day but now I have had a dry/slightly phlegmy cough and tingling in my throat ever since.

I've had a bad cough for about 2 weeks now the cough has improved but now I get a painful burning/tingling itch in my throat that causes me to gag/cry?
It's been a week, I have a sore throat on off, and little dry and irritation. .. Sometime cough at night with sudden tingling. .. Kindly advice?
Dr. Can check throat: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can help decrease throat pain.
Have a pain under my left shoulder blade that hurts when I cough or clear throat. The pain radiates down arm with little finger tingling?
Pinched nerve: Because patients having cardiac problems can have these symptoms, you should have this ruled out. But the most common cause is an irritation of a nerve in the neck by a bone spur or herniation that can cause pain or numbness that runs down the arm into the hand. An MRI can usually show the cause of the problem if it does not resolve. Thank you for the question.
