4 year old complained of knee pain in both knees while biking. It went away quickly after he stopped biking. Anything I should be worried about?

Probably not: He may have been using some new muscles (in different ways than usually). Any new activity can sometimes cause some muscle strains. If he is walking fine and able to move around easily, just keep an eye on him. If he keeps limping for a day or so, has a fever, or seems sick, see your pediatrician. ...Read more

Knee pain in both knees over 4yrs ago left knee dislocated and nothing elese was looked at what could be wring?

Knee pain in both knees over 4yrs ago left knee dislocated and nothing elese was looked at what could be wring?

Knee Pain: The strong ligaments holding the knee together must tear for a dislocation to occur. This would mean your lower leg (tibia-fibula) is displaced in relation to your femur. A partial dislocation is a subluxation, which is possibly what you had. Consult an orthopedist. Risk of re-injury with associated vascular injury can have serious consequences to the health and integrity of your limb. ...Read more

I have chronic knee pain in both knees as well as stiffness; greater in the left. It sometimes is so severe that it hurts from my ankle to my pelvis.

See rheumatologist: At your age, it is unusual to have that degree of pain in so many joints. See your primary care doctor or a rheumatologist to make sure that you don't have a systemic condition. If that work up is negative, you may just have referred pain from standard knee conditions like patellofemoral syndrome. A sports med doc can take a look after the systemic work up is done. ...Read more

Knee pain in both knees, cortisone shot in each didn't help, X-rays showed arthritis, could bursitis be a cause also? Need MRI, right?

Knee pain in both knees, cortisone shot in each didn't help, X-rays showed arthritis, could bursitis be a cause also? Need MRI, right?

Not MRI: The xrays already show the reason for your pain. You have arthritis in your knees. An MRI is not going to add much info that is likely to be of any additional benefit. It's now time to work with your doctor to treat and minimize the effects of your arthritis. It may mean anti-inflammatory meds, weight loss, physical therapy, or many more modalities out there for treatment. You know why. Now act! ...Read more

Im32 yo n having pain in both knees have hypothyroidism what could be the reason of this knee pain/joints pain no swelling just feel loose n painful?

Something systemic?: Bilateral knee pain and thyroid problems doesn't ring any bells but at your age it does suggest you be worked up for something systemic going on. I would look for markers of general inflammation in your blood and might even consider looking for an auto-immune etiology if nothing apparent on physical exam. Where I up I am constantly getting up and down to get stuff from the printer. Now my knees hurt, and I get a back knee pain near the behind area??

Probably overuse: Since this involves both knees, it is probably from overuse, especially since only the back of the knee. Take more frequent breaks to get up and walk around. Perform simple range of motion activities by moving the knee through full range of motion and stretch at the limits of motion when fully straight and fully bent. Ice may help if pain persists. Apply ice to painful area 15-20 min/hour. ...Read more
