No other disease?: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... Prob. Not worrisome: As an isolated symptom, what you describe is not worrisome. In order to propel its contents, the colon contracts (squeezes) to push the feces toward the anus. May be impacted: You may have a stool impaction. This is a large collection of stool that has hardened to the point abdominal it's very hard to clear. Is he ill? Has he: Eaten anything orange or red? If he is not ill in any other way, you can observe him for fever, vomiting, blood in the stool, abdominal pain.
