Can migraine in children be cured or only treated?

Can migraine in children be cured or only treated?

Depends: There are several hypotheses to the cause of migraine and it is likely that migraine is a sex-conditioned inherited disorder (autosomal dominant in females and autosomal recessive in males). This is most likely to be so in the "typical" migraine- the mostly youth-onset, the provocation by
birth control, induction by menstruation and self limitation after menopause. Thus a pos. Fam history is key. ...Read more

Yes, not unique: You may be escalating into "chronic daily headaches", and this pattern needs to be broken up asap. You failed to list your meds, so cannot comment on reason for failure, but best you avoid pain meds of all sorts including nsaid's, narcotics, and tylenol (acetaminophen). Could improve with preventative meds, botox, or acupuncture. Discuss these approaches with your doctor. ...Read more

Headache, numbness, confusion, diarrhea hospital said a migraine then called next day saying scan showed what can be multiple sclerosis. Am I dying?

No, you'll be ok.: You cannot easily die of a migraine or MS. MRI results like this are common. The diagnosis of both of these is not certain. Consider them working diagnoses.

Focus on your symptoms, let your medical team sort out what the names of the conditions are. Then together come up with a treatment plan that fits you best. ...Read more

What's the diff between hemiplegic migraine and a TIA? Docs have suspected both with me but none could agree which one it was...im confused now.

No difference: This is a distinction without a differnce. Both will leave no trace on imaging, so it is question of interpreation of the symptoms. At age 24 I would favor migraine. If you have a patent foramen ovale in your heart, I could be convinced to call it a TIA. It sounds like yoiu are in good hands. If everybody is thinking alike then nobody is thinking. Can 1 migraine cause a spot on the brain that can be being confused for MS. Or does it take more than 1 migraine to create a spot and it might be MS?

MRI: You seem to be putting the cart before the horse. Do you actually have neurological symptoms consistent with MS, or is there a question that one lesion would confirm a disease, which by description is "multiple". Also, is it clear that your "spot" is due to migraine or some other condition. Have a comprehensive conference with your physician and get this addressed. ...Read more

RX migraine aura (no pain) and my left side goes numb, I feel nauseous, tired, strange afterwords. But is it normal to feel uncoordinated and confused during? Like depersonalized or dissociated?

Migraine: Yes, it is possible to have post-migraine symptoms, or even the symptoms you're describing while having a migraine. However, if these are new symptoms from your typical migraine that your doctor diagnosed you with before, then you should be evaluated again to be sure it's nothing new or different. Make an appointment to see your doctor ASAP. Best wishes. ...Read more

On topamax (topiramate) was told I had hemiplegic migraine by one doc and other doc told I've had tia's I'm confused still weak left side pain right side of head?

Prop migraines: Well both migraines and tia's (mini-strokes) can cause your weakness. If it's associated with migraines and given your age, I would guess it's likely from migraines but hard to be sure unless you have an MRI to rule out the mini-stroke. If this comes and goes with the migraine and you have a documented history of migraine, your neurologist may not need an mri. ...Read more

How to know the difference, aura migraine and aura seizure? Get no headache. Dizzy, blind, confused, hot, speech prob, heart palput. Dad had grand mal seizure.

Does it take a couple of days to really get over the symptoms of a complex migraines? Like dizziness, off balanced, and confusion lingers for awhile?

Three stages: Migraine may present with a vague prodrome about 24 hrs prior to the headache and afterwards, there is a postdrome period, usually for 24-48 hrs. So your symptoms sound typical. Since the process totals 3-4 days per episode, may make some sense to use a preventative med or otc prep to keep this from occurring. ...Read more

Had CT scans done on head this year for migraines and confusion. Would it have shown increased icp? I have popping feeling and sound when turn head.

Sometimes: Ct and MRI scans can show some disorders that cause increased intracranial pressure (icp) such as a mass, but they cannot measure the pressure itself. There are also some conditions such as pseudotumor cerebri that are associated with increased icp, but the scans can appear normal. The only way to directly measure the icp is by a spinal tap or other similar test. ...Read more
