Internet: Please don't believe everything you read online. Viable pregnancy stops vaginal bleeding in nearly every pregnancy. Bleeding is never considered normal in pregnancy and is often a significant concern. If you are pregnant and bleeding you should consider this to be an emergency. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

I am confused about how the weeks of pregnancy are calculated. If conception occurs in week 3 of pregnancy, how could week 4 be 2 weeks post-conception? How are the weeks of pregnancy typically determined?

I am confused about how the weeks of pregnancy are calculated. If conception occurs in week 3 of pregnancy, how could week 4 be 2 weeks post-conception? How are the weeks of pregnancy typically determined?

Menstrual Weeks: Usually, the actual date of conception is unknown, therefore pregnancy is dated based on the first day of the last period. The due date is 40 weeks from this date. Sometimes conception date is known (ie ivf pregnancy) in which case the estimated due date is 38 weeks later; for the purposes of calculation ovulation is considered as day 14 of a theoretical cycle. Early sono will confirm dating. ...Read more

Confused! My due date doesn't add up with date of intercourse or cycle. If I'm due Aug 17th, when did pregnancy start? Intercourse and conception?

Confused! My due date doesn't add up with date of intercourse or cycle. If I'm due Aug 17th, when did pregnancy start? Intercourse and conception?

Conception: Conception, if your due date is correct, would have occurred around November 23,2014 which is when you would have likely ovulated and thus (intercourse) conception would have occurred in the several days following that and implantation would have occurred somewhere around 12/2/14.Hope that helps. ...Read more

Took a pregnancy test but confused. is the control line the same as the negative line because the test had one line but very dark?

Took a pregnancy test but confused. is the control line the same as the negative line because the test had one line but very dark?

Read instructions: Usually it takes two lines for the test to be positive. Please read the instructions that came with the test kit, carefully and follow the guidelines rigorously. If you had unprotected sex and missed a period, the time to do the test is 5-7 days after a missed period. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

Placental bleeding: it is not uncommon for the placental implantation site to have some bleeding, also known as a subchorionic hemorrhage. Some pregnancies well persist despite this finding, but you would need ultrasound diagnosis and follow up. this is not an emergency because there is not much that can be done at this point, except for rest and observation. make an appointment with your OB. ...Read more

I took a pregnancy test this morning around 6am. I took a second one later today and it was negative which is accurate? I'm a bit confused.

Urine hcg: Urine pregnancy tests are a bit less accurate that blood pregnancy tests. Chances are your HCG level is right near the level of being positive, which would explain why one negative and one positive. Your urine level may change slightly based on how hydrated you are. I would either get a blood pregnancy test or retest in 2-3 days when the level is slightly higher. ...Read more

I am so confused i asked a question and one doctor answers december then one november I am due august 29th which is it? I am needing conception mth?

Conception month?: There are many calculators available online. Some are better than others so choose at least two. Both of the ones i used gave 12/7/12 conception for due date of august 30th based upon 6wks on 1/4/13. 2wk difference from last wk in november to 1st wk in december isn't much. So search online for a few more calculators and plug in your data to figure out your conception date. Then ask your doctor! ...Read more
