Is it true that many doctors are switching to the "concierge" model for their practices? One doctor told me it is the model of the future!

Concierge Model: It is true that more and more physicians are switching to a concierge model for their practices. There are many twists on how a doctor can set up their concierge practice. It typically involves limiting the number of patients they take care of. This number can range from 1 to 1,000. After 17 years I had to change primary doctors. My other one went into concierge. What happens on the first visit with new doctor?

I like: To make my first visit with a Patient a COMPLETE evaluation including complete History and a "targeted" Physical Exam ("Hands On") HOWEVER the more "modernist" Physicians rather make the first visit an "introduction" and more SOCIAL (often with NO CHARGE)... You pretty much have to decide which kind of experience you want and make it clear BEFORE an appointment is scheduled
Hope this is helpful

I don't have the money for a prime or concierge. How can I get a refill without that or a pcp?

My doctor is switching over to a concierge practice with a firm called mdvip. Is it worth the $1600/year fee. I really like this doctor.

Yes, if...: Yes, it's worth it if you like the doctor, the doctor takes good care of you, and you have a budget for that amount. Many people have an annual deductible of $1500-$2000 on their regular insurance, so paying a good personal doctor $1600 a year is sort of like paying one's annual deductible. Also, one day in the hospital can easily cost ten times that much. ...Read more
