I tested positive for pregnancy. A quantitative hCG test at 3w6d since LMP showed a level of 40. 5 days later my hCG was 120. Is this increase too low?

No: The embryo can produce HCG as early as 5 days post fertilization but the amounts are so small and the maternal-fetal blood connections are so minimal that not even a blood test can pick it up, let along a urine pg test that is not positive until your HCG levels are 20 iu/ml or more. You should, however, be able to pick up HCG in a blood test as early as day 9 post ovulation but the levels are low. ...Read more

Need to repeat: Had you been pregnant with a healthy embryo, HCG level would have increased two fold over two days. It would be prudent to repeat the HCG levels. If you get abdominal pain, go to the emergency room of a hospital to rule out ectopic pregnancy. ...Read more
