The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more

If I have a pinched nerve in my lower back can that cause numbness and tingling in all 4 limbs and would it be worse in the morning?
Had lower back pain x 1 wk. Also in buttocks. Better now but not gone.. Now have tingling down one leg. Should it improve since back is improving
It may improve...: Most cases of back pain will improve, especially with conservative therapies. However, the tingling down the leg indicates a nerve issue, the severity of which can only be determined with diagnostic testing such as MRI and/or EMG (best done 8 wks after symptom onset). It is possible to have isolated numbness/tingling of the leg without accompanied back pain. ...Read more
Lower back pain on spine, mid back muscle tightness, tingling in back of both legs from mid buttocks to knees about 50x/day. Xray normal. 8 months now?
See a Doc: The first thing to do is to try to determine what activity brought about these symptoms. You really need to think hard about this. If you can identify what brought it about, then it may be helpful to speak to a personal trainer to see if you are using poor technique or if there is an activity that you are "overdoing". If the symptoms persist, probably best to see your doc or a back specialist. ...Read more

Can a MRI fail to see a compressed nerve causing sciatica with pain in lower back and weakness in leg(s)?
MRI not perfect: MRI is fairly good at finding structural compression but it is not perfect. Sometimes very small compressions generate large symptoms. Some compressions are dynamic and change over time and can be missed. Yet, if the MRI is completely normal, I would look at other causes of leg weakness. ...Read more

Can pinched nerve in lower back cause edema? Pain specialist says I have pinched nerve causing low leg issue. But leg has edema (noted by therapist).
Have a full exam: Your pinched lumbar nerve may be part of the picture but so might other issues that may be hiding behind your chronic pain. Have a good full (lab work, too) exam to discover the role other issues might play. Pay some attention to your fluid intake/output amounts to report to the Dr. Endocrine, urology, bariatric, cardiac and other issues can result in swelling symptoms. Can pinched nerve cause tingles when looking up&numbness in rt arm and leg? I do a lot of stair running .1st started with pulled lower back and spread
Spurling Sign: Yes. Clasically, looking up and toward the side of symptoms will elicit a shooting pain into the arm suggesting a pinched nerve in the neck. Less commonly, if the spur/disc is more central, there may also be symptoms affecting the same leg. Again, this would imply a combination of central and lateral pressure. A large disc herniation would be most likely if < 50 years. Consider a spine md eval. ...Read more
What can I do for a pinched nerve I have on my lower back? It also goes down my right leg towards the back right above the knee.
Sciatica: Low back, buttock and "shooting" leg pain are all symptoms of a pinched nerve. It sounds like you may have that problem. If the pain is severe and limiting your activity still, the best non-narcotic medications that I have found to work for my patients are antiinflammatories such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen which are over-the-counter medications. Other non-narcotic medications include tramadol (ultram) which requires a prescription and nerve-pain medications such as gabapentin. These are all to be taken for temporary pain relief. This type of pain typically resolves with time. Ask your primary physician about these if the pain is still limiting you. If it is still going on for more than a month an MRI may be helpful to help sort out what is going on and there could be other potential treatments outside of surgery that could benefit you. ...Read more
Lower back pain with pain and pins & neddles in legs and feet at night closer to morning. Pinched nerve? Laying in bed to long?
Leg neuralgia: Not all pins and neesles in the legs are due to pinched nerves in the back, especially when symmetrical (both legs). Your doctor will recommend you have nerve conduction studies (NCS) by neurology and probably a CT of the lumbar spine. ...Read more

Can a pinched nerve cause harsh lower back pain that runs down the left bum & leg , bladder pain, femoral pain and fever?
Polyradiculopathy : A pinched nerve in the low back can commonly cause back pain as well as pain in the lower extremity ("bum", leg, femur, etc.). If the femoral pain is in the front of the thigh, it is likely multiple nerves are irritated at the same time. "bladder pain" and fever may be due to a separate entity such as a uti. However, spinal cord infection & cauda equina syndrome must be ruled out->an emergency. ...Read more

Feels like l get a shiver in my thigh. I have a pinched nerve in lower back. Low iron levels. What could be causing this feeling?
Thigh shivers: If these are muscle twitches, localized muscular or superficial nerve irritability is likely. If frequent diffuse muscle twitches or cramps occur, deficiencies of calcium, magnesium and potassium must be ruled out. I don't think it's a symptom of iron deficiency. The pinched low back nerve may be a factor, however. A neurologist could evaluate you for this. ...Read more
