Complete Opacification Of Maxillary Sinus
What is extensive opacification of the left sphenoid sinus and polypoid mucosial thickening in maxialary sinuses bilateraly?
In anatomy, a sinus is a cavity within a bone or other tissue. Most commonly found in the bones of the face and connecting with the nasal cavities. Sinus (anatomy), description of the general term paranasal sinuses, air cavities in the cranial bones, especially those near the nose, including: the maxillary sinuses, also called the maxillary antra and the largest of the ...Read more
It depends: Isolated sphenoid sinusitis is uncommon but may cause symptoms like any other sinus condition- congestion, pain/ pressure, post nasal drainage, fatigue, etc. If symptomatic, antibiotics or surgically draining the sinus may be appropriate. If not symptomatic, it may just be a mucus retention cyst (benign glob of snot!)-requires no treatment. Depending on its appearance, repeat a ct at some point. ...Read more
Opacification: On a radiograph means that something that is normally lucent (dark on x-ray because it lacks density) has some level of radio-opaqueness. This opacification can be due to fluid & mucus from sinusitis, blood from surgery or injury, bone grafting from sinus lifts, to cysts & other masses - benign and malignant. That finding needs to be correlated with any current or recent symptoms, illnesses, etc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Blockage of sinus: The extremely narrow space allowing air to enter the maxillary sinus (sinus under the eye) and allow drainage from that sinus is called the infundibulum. Opacification of that narrow channel is the first phase of acute inflammation of that sinus. If this blockage becomes chronic, a rhinologic surgeon can open that passage and allow resolution of problem. ...Read more
Headaches, nasal congestion, sinuses, facial numbness, vision problems.Did CT scan showed only mucosal thickening of bilateral sphenoid and ethmoid.
Chronic sinusitis : Chronic allergic rhino sinusitis can definitely be causing your symptoms. I would recommend a one month trial of daily antihistamines like Claritin (loratadine) or zyrtec and nightly sinus rinses. If your symptoms are not better i would see an ENT like me who specializes in nose/sinus surgery to discuss options. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Brain MRI reveals complete opacification of the bilateral frontal and ethmoid sinus, otherwise normal, could this be cause of daily head pressure
Ct results1mild mucosal thickening involving the ethmoid air cells and small mucous retention in the left maxillary sinus.2small concha bullosa bilaterally without ostiomeatal stenosis. Please explain?
Sinus CT: Concha bullosa are common anatomic variants of bones in the nasal cavity. When they are large, they can obstruct the sinus drainage pathway and predispose to sinusitis. When small, usually of no concern. Small mucus retention cysts and mild mucosal thickening may be related to mild chronic sinusitis. However, these mild findings may not even cause noticeable symptoms. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My CT scan report reveals polyp retention in left maxillary sinus and bilateral sphenoid sinuses, polyp measures 3*1.8 cm.Is surgery necessary?
Frontal and left maxillary sinusites with left maxillary polyp/mucosal thickeing. Which treatment is required?
Sinusitis: Hello. You are describing a condition called pan sinusitis which means that multiple sinuses are affected. The treatment of choice in my practice would be an antibiotic, possibly a steroid medication, a nasal spray and a follow visit after the medication has been completed. Further evaluation such as a nasal endoscopy may be helpful to check for recovery. ...Read more
Mri: mild opacification of the inferior left maxillary & right sphenoid sinuses. A mild opacification is seen in the inferior right mastoid air cells?
If no symptoms....: Probably nothing to worry about. Many patients have some mucosal thickening or a small amount of fluid in 1 or more of the sinuses or mastoid air cells. However, if there is pressure, pain or tenderness over the sinuses or around/behind an ear, a fever or foul smelling, bloody or purulent nasal secretions, a sinus infection or mastoiditis is a concern. Please see your doctor. ...Read more
