Compazine Vs Zofran For Nausea
Compazine, (prochlorperazine) promethozine and Zofran are all meds IV taken for my cronic severe nausea. What else is there to help? Please
Why nausea?: At age 19, you need to get to the bottom of why you are chronically nauseated. This is not normal. Nausea is a symptom of disease/disorder. Those meds are fine if you have a stomach flu and need to get over the hump for a week, but chronic use of them screams for getting further evaluation to figure out why you have this symptom. You need to see a GI doctor and work with them to find cause! ...Read more
Compazine (prochlorperazine) does...: Ondansetron (zofran), a powerful anti-nausea drug, is a serotonin 5-ht3 receptor antagonist. It blocks these "receptors" linked to the crtz. The "vomiting center" located in our brains. Compared to compazine, (prochlorperazine) a piperazine phenothiazine linked to other brain receptors (d2), it causes very little sedation. Both are used to decrease nausea and vomiting after surgery. ...Read more

No Biggy: Why not just take care of the acid reflux? There are many medications for it, and dietary modification, even Tums. Yes, Zofran (ondansetron) (ondansetron) helps nausea but it will make you drowsy (maybe that's what you need?), and yes, you could take a Zofran (ondansetron) if the acid reflux makes you nauseated. No biggy. But it's always better to attack the cause-that will then take care of the symptoms. And if not you'll need to see your doc ...Read more

Nausea from meds: Controlling nausea can sometimes be a challenge. This side effect is very well known from flagyl. Upping the dose of the zofran may help, or your doc can try a different antiemetic such as reglan (metoclopramide) or compazine (prochlorperazine). My personal favorite is ginger-- usually I will eat 2 slices of the crystallized stuff or make a ginger tea by boiling a chunk of root for 10 min then adding honey to taste ...Read more
What can I take to ease the symptoms of flagyl? I already suffer from really bad nausea and am taking Zofran (ondansetron) 8 mg
Can I take Zofran for occasional nausea while taking the generic form of Lexapro (escitalopram) (on 5mg now will end up at 10mg)?
Had persistent nausea. Had gallbladder out. 1 week post-op, still loss off appetite and nausea. Zofran (ondansetron) doesn't always help.
Watchful waiting: Maybe the nausea was never related to the gallbladder or it is related to the operation itself. For now, just need to wait. If it persists for another 3-6 months, see a GI doctor for a consult. Could be sphincter of oddi dysfunction, gastroparesis, or even gerd. Hope it gets better! ...Read more
Taking Zofran (ondansetron) odt for nausea. Doc said I could double 4mg tablets. I took 2 tablets 4 hours ago is it okay take another dose?
In general, zofran (ondansetron) is made for short-term usage, and if it has not gotten your symptoms under control yet, adding more is unlikely to help. If, however, it was helping and has worn off, taking one additional tablet would be okay. Again, in the short-term.
Keep in mind zofran (ondansetron) is an opiate relative, which means if you have a drug or alcohol history or a family history, it is not your best choice. ...Read more
Started feeling nausea like I was gonna a vomit out of nowhere. Took 8mg Zofran 20min ago how long till it works? Haven't vomited yet but nauseous. HELP
Depends on why: Nausea and vomiting in a 20yo female can result from something as simple as an emotional reaction to very serious but rare emergency conditions. If it comes with diarrhea its usually food poisoning or a virus. Without diarrhea could be pregnancy, a UTI*, or other pelvic problem. If there is abdominal or pelvic pain or fever, go to the ER. If your body has good reason to vomit, Zofran won't stop it. ...Read more

Bedtime: Take it at night before bed to see if that would help. It's a long acting glp-1so doesn't need to do it with foods. If you still have nausea in the am, consider a different drug instead. There are many options available. ...Read more
What're the effects of long term Zofran (ondansetron) use for treating chronic nausea caused by anxiety? Been taking abt 3, 4mg pills per week for 1.5 years already
Zofran (ondansetron) hasn't been working. Can 1000mg ginger capsule help with nausea due to anxiety? Recently tried it & possibly helped. Psychological or physical?
Effect of ginger: Ginger root helps seasickness and motion sickness, and does help nausea caused by many etiologies. So, your 1000 mg ginger root capsule does in fact work fairly well. In my experience, seems equivalent to many prescriptions, and OTC meclizine and dramamine (dimenhydrinate). ...Read more

I.V. vs I.M. injection of Zofran (ondansetron) for nausea caused by norovirus: which one is better and why?
IV is faster onset: IV (intravenous) vs. IM (intramuscular) are different ways this drug can be administered. Based on pharmacologic references the effects of Zofran (ondansetron) typically peak at end of IV infusion and typically peak around 30 mins for IM injection. Therefore onset of action of IV is faster however you need a IV line in place to administer therefore typically done in hospital or infusion center. ...Read more

Will compazine (prochlorperazine) help my nausea but. Also help me go to sleep. My adderal is still working even after 6hrs and I just want a good night sleep?
Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) insomnia: Yes, it can cause drowsiness as a serendipitous side effect and help nausea. Need to take adderall earlier, it seems. Be careful with compazine (prochlorperazine). It is supposed to be able to cause movement disorders, although I personally have never seen it happen. I prefer ondansetron (Zofran) for nausea or Tigan for that reason. ...Read more
