The kind of toys you mention are certainly more beneficial than the computer games which can lead to a false sense of reality. It depends: There are so many factors that may affect the decision. It depends on the health of the grandparents. If it happens, looking to get support from others in the family is very important. The age of the children may also be a factor. This is a long-term commitment. Many times the grandparents can be stressed. Making sure there is adequate financial support is also important. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Do live-in mental institutions help children who are mental retarded more than living at home and going to public school?
Nearly all gone: Separate institutions for mentally retarded (or seriously mentally ill) individuals have nearly vanished in the U.S. Those with mr have quite different needs, depending on the severity of delay. People with mild delays live at home as children and may live indpendently as adults. Adults with severe mr typically live in group homes. Life quality depends on quality of services, not location. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What is the best possible way for a college student to juggle school, work, extracurricular act., volunteering, and social/family life all in one?
Take it from Clint: One of Clint Eastwood's great lines is from the 1970's movie Magnum Force. At the end of the movie, just after his character Dirty Harry has taken out the last bad guy, he says, "A man's got to know his limitations." This applies to women as well. Certainly no help: Whether or not this constitutes mental abuse is probably a matter of degree and definition. The obvious question is why this conversation was begun in the presence of the children, and how it degenerated into an argument. Neither party appears to be acting like thoughtful adults, and the children will certainly not benefit from observing and then potentially copying this behavior. ...Read more
Who is going to help provide good health insurance for children of older parents who are seniors when the kids are 26?
Good question: The hopeful political end to this, and it is all political, is universal coverage. Until that point, hope these children by age 26 have a good job with health coverage. Society takes care of them for more severe problems if they have no coverage but this of course shifts the cost to everyone who planned ahead. Watch for this to be a big issue in the 2012 campaign. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Bullying happens in school, the work place, home, kids etc.. Is there a mental health diagnosis for why people bully others?
Nonspecific: Bullying can be a final common pathway of behavior for a wide variety of reasons. There is no specific psychiatric diagnosis that matches bullying. Certainly things in such a person's history -- like being mistreated or abused at home -- may be a factor. But it's not an excuse, and bullying must be stopped. If the bully has been through trauma, s/he needs help as well as firm limit-setting. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
