Coming Off Benicar
Benicar (olmesartan): Benicar (olmesartan) is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Olmesartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children who are at least 6 years old. It is sometimes given together with other blood pressure medications
Somewhat: You will see some blood pressure lowering in an hour, most of the effect after 2-3 days, and full effect after about 2 weeks of treatment.
Half life: The half life is 13 hours - it will effectively be out of you in 65 hours.
Benicar (olmesartan): Benicar (olmesartan) is an angiotensin receptor binder or arb anti-hypertensive. It is absorbed and quickly metabolised in the gut. On average the drug should begin working within 20-40 minutes of ingestion. It works on a complex feedback system and can take up to two weeks before seeing any effects on your blood pressure. After two weeks your doctor may decide to adjust the dose if no benefits are seen.See 1 more doctor answer
Benicar (olmesartan) symptoms: Benicar (olmesartan) (B) has the following serious side effects (SE): Difficulty with breathing or swallowing, chest pain, cough, vertigo, abdominal pain, hyperkalemia, renal failure, and rhabdomyolysis. These are very rare, as B is from a class of drugs that has very few SE. If you develop one of these go to the ER for treatment. If the symptoms are severe. If your symptoms are not, call your physician.
Add another med: Previously we used to treat with one med for BP. Studies have shown that treating BP with multiple meds to work on affecting different BP works better. You may need additional meds. Thiazides diuretics would be the next med to try.
How long does it take for med Benicar (olmesartan) to start working and to get out of your system?
Benicar (olmesartan) onset: Benicar (olmesartan) (B) is a member of the angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) class of drugs. It works by remodeling the endothelium (E) of blood vessels, which makes them less stiff and it lowers BP that way. It takes about 2 weeks for B to remodel the E. Once B is stopped, the E begins to change to become stiffer, or less compliant and the BP rises. So, the answer to your question is about 2 weeks.See 1 more doctor answer
I take Benicar (olmesartan) 40/25. Is there something as good? I don't have health insurance and Benicar (olmesartan) is expensive!
Hello, 2 months ago I reduced my Benicar (olmesartan) from 40 mg daily down to 20 mg daily. Is 1/2 of the drug out of my system by now?
Medications: I do not understand the way you are seeing things. The drug is still in your system. There is a therapeutic dose range that it get's to. If this dose is therapeutic then your blood pressure should be normal. On the dose you are currently on that would have occurred within one week of the change.
I've recently started taking 40mg Benicar (olmesartan) daily. Is there any benefit in taking 20mg in the morning and another 20mg in the evening?
Google said patent will expire on benicar (olmesartan) April 26 this year is that true? When it generic will it be lot cheaper instead of 280 dollars a month?
Hopefully: Generic drugs tend to be less expensive than their patented precursors. The cost of generics has been trending upwards in the United States making them less affordable than in the past. Call your Congressmen and Senators. Medication in general should not be a luxury product, whether brand or generic.
Benicar (olmesartan) worked excellent for first 2-3 days but lost its action within 15 days, is there anything generated anti Benicar (olmesartan) in by body! ?
Resistance?: RU really taking amlodipine, bisoprolol, HCTZ, and Benicar (olmesartan) together? Be sure your cuff is accurate, sized right for your diameter arm, measured at heart level, taken 3X and averaged, taken after 10 minutes rest, many days - to be sure your measurements are accurate. Avoid salt and NSAIDs. Check your renal function and electrolytes. Gradually titrate the doses to max if needed.
Hello, I'm 38 years old. Male benicar (olmesartan) user. I've been taking 40mg of benicar (olmesartan) for 1.5 years. Can I ween off safely by going down to 20 mg for a week?
Yes...: But your BP should be the guide. If you are switching to another med you can stop in 48hrs. If you are stopping med completely....your BP will be the guide.
Yes: There are no significant interactions of these drugs, please contact your prescriber to be sure.
