Got a pill from a friend I recently got a pill from a friend. He told me it was like tylenol or advil. It is red on one half and blue on the other, with a white stripe separating the colours in the middle. It is a capsule shape. I have taken one with no
A: A number of things should be noted from your questions. First - it is generally not a good practice to take medication, whether "over-the-counter" or prescription, from someone else. Even well intentioned friends may not know important details of your medical history that may make it unwise or dangerous to use certain medications. Second - "tylenol" is a brand name for acetaminophen, and "advil" is a brand name for ibuprofen. Although both of these medications can be used for fever or pain reduction, they are different types of medication. Whether either of them is safe or correct for you to use could only be determined based on your medical background: important facts would include medications you may take for chronic conditions, and any history of allergies or intolerance of other medications. Third - there are many online "pill identifier" websites now; but the medication you are referring to may not be referenced since it is an over-the-counter product. Better to consult with your physician about what medications are right for you, and take only medication that you can verify by it's source bottle or package. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Took 2 Advil (ibuprofen) liqui gels (200) at 12:30, 2 regular strength tylenols (325 each) 5:30, and another regular at 7:15pm. How soon safely can I take more?
Why ever???: Fever is a normal body response that increases metabolism, heart rate & breathing to fight infection. It is a sign not the problem. I find it abusive to wake a child for fever meds or constantly be giving something in the false hope that it does something good. Kids need ample fluids, nutrition & rest to recover from an illness. If I choose to medicate I pick the longer acting drug & stick with it ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I've had a juicy cough, body aches. Fevers have ranged from 99.5-101.2. 3rd night and it hit 102. I haven't taken Tylenol & can't take Advil. Advice??
I have tension headaches almost every day. Advil/tylenol doesn't always help. What can I do to get rid of them?
Tension Headache?: I believe that your question mush first be answered with a question. Was it a physician who diagnosed your headaches as tension headaches? If the answer is yes, there may be choices of additional meds that can be added to the AdvilTylenol. However it should be the diagnosing physician who should add additional meds. If you made the diagnosis of "tension" headache" consider consulting a neurologist ...Read more
I'm currently on Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). Is it ok to take the occasional Excedrin or Advil? Tylenol doesn't really help my headaches.
I have atypical neuralgia and so far just take Advil which doesn't help. Is there a more effective pain med without Tylenol as I'm allergic to it?
NSAIDS do not help: Neuralgia (neuropathic pain) does not respond well to anti inflammatory medicines. True neuralgia first line med should be low dose Amitriptyline an hr before bed. OR Gabapentin slowly increasing the dose over 1 month with meals to tolerate side effects OR lyrica (pregablin) start at bed time low dose. DIet exercise no alcohol no cigarettes, 8 -10 hrs of sleep/ night. See your primary care f ...Read more

What might be wrong with my neck/back? Stabbing pain for more than 5 days. First noticed when seated at computer, having been online for more than two hours. Pain is consistent, does not respond to tylenol or advil. Using ice packs makes negligible diff
You may have strained the muscles/joints in your neck. I would recommend resting your neck, adjusting your computer screen so you do not have to look up or down, regular anti-inflammatory (discuss with your doctor what is safe for you) and hot shower and neck stretches once or twice a day. If this does not work then you should see your doctor for assessment and physical therapy.
1. Hot shower to loosen neck
2. Place neck in following positions and hold your head in that position with your hand. Relax your neck and slowly try to increase the stretch over days-weeks.
Flex head forward x 30 secs
extend head x 30 secs
turn right x 30 secs
turn left x 30 secs
bend right x 30 secs
bend left x 30 secs
repeat 3 times.
You may repeat this routine daily. Good luck! ...Read more
