Columella Swelling After Rhinoplasty
Very prominent bony nasal bridge after septoplasty and turbinate reduction. Not noticeable before. Why?
Swelling is the enlargement of organs, skin, or other body parts. It is caused by a buildup of fluid in the tissues. The extra fluid can lead to a rapid increase in weight over a short period of time (days to weeks). Swelling can occur all over the body (generalized) or only in one part ...Read more
Can undissolved stiches cause some discomfort numbness, stiffened tip & base of nose after a septoplasty/inferior turb surgery? I'm 14 days post.
Potentially: You can expect swelling after an extensive septal surgery; sutures that were placed can accentuate it somewhat, but the majority is likely related to the surgery itself. Close followup with your surgeon is necessary so he/she can help manage the swelling in the postoperative period. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
How long after breast reconstruction implants placed after 4 months of tissue expanders does the swelling go completely down?
Varies: Most swelling after surgery resolves by 6 weeks or so. However, a lot depends on what was performed exactly. Swapping out expanders for implants is usually quite straight forward. Sometimes more extensive surgery is required for the best results eg removing scar tissue, reshaping (internal, external, or both), fat grafting, etc. Your plastic surgeon will know best for your specific situation. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
What other options remain to remove a dorsal hump after septorhinoplasty besides a steroid shot into the nose? Im 4 weeks post op of septorhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty post op: Every surgeon is different in their post surgical instructions. I personally retain intranasal splints for less than one week and a splint on the nasal dorsum for 1 week or more. I have not found benefit from post operative massage maneuvers, but it will certainly not hurt, and may help. You will definitely find out with time. If it fails, a filler injection may help to forego revision ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

About a week or two: If you had surgery to just fix a deviated septum and no external work on the nasal bones or cartilage, there shouldn't be much bruising at all. How long does the bruising and swelling last after rhinoplasty? I want to get rhinoplasty before my 20th anniversary party. How far in advance should I plan in order to be completely healed from all the swelling and bruising?
Well in advance!: I generally cringe when patients request a procedure just before an event. Bruising and swelling are typically minimal, but if there are any issues with healing you don't want them just before your event. I recommend giving 4-6 months to heal at a minimum, so start early, and enjoy the results! ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

The size is importan: A 6 y/o may have a submental node or two normally, but they are usually small, smaller than 1/2 inch. When it is infected, it may be red and/or tender. It is extremely rare for a small child to have a cancer in the submental node only. A viral infection as the cause is a possibility. It may be a lymph node, but maybe a thyroglossal cyst if it is in the midline. I would have a doctor take a look. ...Read more
