Preventing Cancer: It's VERY important to get a colposcopy if your pap is abnormal. A colposcopy is a speculum exam where special stains and magnifying lenses are used to look for pre-cancers on your cervix. If there are abnormalities, your GYN will take a biopsy, which is uncomfortable, but lasts ...Read more
Biopsy is tissue removed by needle or cutting to remove part of a body part. It is usually a small amount of material that is processed by a pathologist. Most of the time it is stained and looked at through a microscope to arrive at a diagnosis. Special processes are done for some tissues or problems. The purpose is to tell what the problem is (diagnosis). ...Read more
What is the significance of p-63 being present in a colposcopy biopsy without p-16 being expressed?
Not much: This is still experimental and has actually generated little interest. I'm glad that p16 was not expressed which suggests a relatively non-aggressive lesion. ...Read more

Hi there, I had a colposcopy/biopsy on the 12th of Oct and only really started bleeding on the 19th. Bleeding gets heavier daily, is this normal?
Depends: It depends on who is doing it. Neither should be the source of anything more than minimal discomfort at most. An iud insertion may cause some menstrual-like cramping - take Motrin 800 mg before going to your appointement. The colposcopy might cause a pinching feeling, but in my experience most patients feel nothing. ...Read more

I had bleeding, pain & a large sac of skin with a small hole at the top fall out about 6 days after a colposcopy & biopsy, what could this be?
Tissue?: Colposcopy is the gold standard diagnostic tool for diagnosing cervical intraepithelial neoplasia following abnormal cytology (abnormal pap). Simple language The GYN uses different solutions and light to examine the all areas of the cervix to check for abnormal tissue. Biopsies of cells are taken. Your sx could be normal s/e of the procedure. Contact the Gyn who performed the procedure to review. ...Read more
At least until...: You get your results. There may be a chemical cautery medication applied to your cervix to help stop bleeding that can get rubbed off and cause new bleeding, make things messy, and potentially cause irritation for either you or your partner. ...Read more
Should be ok now: There are small sore spots on your cervix from the biopsies that should have healed by now. It's unlikely that you will re-open the sores and cause bleeding. Unfortunately, you may have some yucky discharge from the chemical we use on the biopsy spots, but that's about it. Even if you do have some light bleeding or spotting, it's not dangerous, just wait another week before trying again. ...Read more

Not designed for sex: There are billions of bacteria coming down into the anal-rectal area all day long... such as E. coli, Klebsiella, and all sorts of other species. Scientists say there are more bacteria in the intestinal tract than there are human cells in our entire body (we are outnumbered). To stay safe, an anus should be reserved for the activity it was designed for, just pooping. ...Read more

Is it normal to have my period twice in one month? I recently had a colposcopy biopsy a month ago. Should I be worried?
Normal cycles: Since normal cycles vary from 21 days to 35-42 days and months vary between 28-31 days, it is not uncommon at all to have 2 periods in one month or to skip a month. Even while on pills with a 28 day cycle, you will have 2 periods in one month twice a year. Hope this helps. ...Read more
No it will not.: The biopsy samples are fairly small so there is no increased risk to your pregnancy from colposcopy. Current infections can cause problems so it is important to have good prenatal care to test for these - with a family medicine doctor or OB gyn. A leep procedure to cut out a large portion of your cervix is sometimes done if colposcopy is abnormal. Having a leep can put you at higher risk. ...Read more

I had a total thyroidectomy in january. Recently my pap test came back with agus cells, so I had a colposcopy & biopsy. Is pregnancy still possible?
Yes indeed: Congratulations on your focus both on getting good health care and your desire to become a mother. The biopsy results will determine whether there's anything in the endocervix that needs to be treated -- chances of a lesion requiring hysterectomy producing only "agus" are low. Be sure to maintain your thyroid medication through your pregnancy. ...Read more
Abnormal pap came back HPV positive/cin1. Sent for colposcopy. Biopsy came back mild. But new pap is moderate-severe. Now have blood tinged discharge?
In right course...: You have been in right course of care and luckily so far you are on safe side. Remember no test including biopsy can bring a 100 % of firm diagnosis as it is supposed to do and every life event including a disease always displays on its pattern of full spectrum; hence it is hard to discern what it may be at the early stage of disease and at the very end, almost anyone can tell what it is. Life! ...Read more

I'm still feeling bad 5 days after my colposcopy, biopsy, and cuterage my symptoms are nausea, tired, and sensitive stomach especially after a meal, is this normal?
I'd say see your Dr.: It may be normal to feel nausea and sensitivity after all these procedures, but they should subside after a week or so, and if you don't feel better soon, like in a couple more days or so you should see your doctor soon, to be sure no damage was done during those procedures you had. If there was an unintended woung made, you might have internal bleeding, so is good to see your dr. If not better. ...Read more
