What is involved with a colposcopy?

Pelvic exam: It is the same basic set up as a pap smear but your doctor will look at your cervix with a microscope instead of the naked eye. They will use a couple of different dyes to bring out the cells of the cervix and take a small biopsy of any area looking abnormal.

How much does a colposcopy usually hurt?

How much does a colposcopy usually hurt?

Not too much: Well just looking at the cervix is not much worse than a routine exam. Biopsies certainly add some brief pain. Most patients tell me it was uncomfortable but not too bad. The discomforting parts probably add up to less than a minute of actually performing the biopsies.

How much time is it before you can excercise after a colposcopy?

Immediately: After a colposcopy you can exercise immediately, unless the colposcopy was performed in the context of a connotation of the cervix, in which case you will want to wait at least 2 weeks, and only after a doctor has given you clearance.

14
Are there any negative side affects, long term or short, to a colposcopy?

Very safe: Colposcopy is simply shining some light and placing some vinegar on the cervix to look for abnormal cells. Some women need a biopsy. These are very small excisions of tissue. A short term side effect would be spotting or bleeding. The biopsies are small and don't affect future fertility. The cervix heals quickly and in a few months one couldn't tell you had a biopsy, if you need one.

How long is recovery time following a colposcopy and when can I return to work full time?

Immediately: A colposcopy is usually done in the office. Its purpose is to look closely at the cervix for abnormal cells. If any abnormalities are seen, a biopsy can be done to rule out precancer or cancer. It's a very quick procedure and shouldn't keep you away from work. If a biopsy is done, spotting is expected for a day or so. This should not prevent you from working either.

Can I Masturbate After A Colposcopy?

Depends: You can stimulate your clitoris but I would recommend waiting 3-5 days before having any toys inserted in the vagina to prevent it from touching the cervix that would be healing after the biopsy

19

19
Does either a colposcopy or biopsy hurt?

A little: Colposcopy may cause a little discomfort associated with insertion of a speculum. Biopsy may be associated with some pain depending on your sensitivity. Please discuss your concerns with the doctor who will be performing the procedure so that s/he may take proper steps to reduce discomfort.

Is it okay to masturbate after a colposcopy?
