Peppermint Oil (Definition)

Peppermint (Mentha piperita), a popular flavoring for gum, toothpaste, and tea, is also used to soothe an upset stomach or to aid in digestion. Can 2/3 drops of undiluted peppermint oil, and the same amount of undiluted lavender oil, cause any serious systemic effects when applied topically?

Depends.: If you are putting it on an open sore or cracked skin, it may not help and may make things worse. Any break in the skin increases absorption into the system of anything put on the skin. Also, a person can be allergic to either one and that is bad, too and this can have systemic effects. For the proper use of herbal products, make sure there is good, unbiased, ad-free research to justify it. ...Read more

I've been itchy for over a week in armpit kept scratching now I have a bump under the skin. Not painful also have possible ibs use colpermin?

A few thoughts: Colpermin usually doesn't cause itching but because it's a natural substance, it's hard to say for sure because those compounds are not as regulated as prescription medications. You could try not taking it for a few daysto see if it helps your symptoms. Try not to scratch as this can cause irritation to your skin. Possibly the bump under the skin is a cyst that formed as a result of the scratching ...Read more

Hi I have bad ibs. I would take colpermin everyday but I'm trying to conceive is it safe to take. I also have hypothyroidism any tips for concieving.

Technically, dunno: BUT colpermin is a simple extract of peppermint oil. Doesn't mean it doesn't work; I suspect it is quite helpful in a number of people as just a soothing agent. As a food, it's never going to be tested for safety in pregnancy since it is not going to have restrictions as if it were a drug and likely safe. The thyroid should be fine if the level is regulated. DOES NEED adjustment during pregnancy. ...Read more
