Colonoscopy done through stoma, there is a ulcerated mass sigmoid colon approximately 15 to 20 ct meter, there is light bleeding from colon! Ok to delay surgery now?

Ulcerated stoma: Hello. You have a colostomy stoma and the presumed reason for that is colon cancer. You are 74y and now present with ulceration and some bleeding. DELAY IS VERY UNWISE. This must be treated as if it were colon cancer, and surgically removed asap and histology to confirm either benign or malignant with appropriate follow up thanks ...Read more

Hi, I have abused laxatives. (stimulant type). Will my doc know from a colonoscopy? Does this abuse cause Crohn's disease or result in stoma.

Hi, I have abused laxatives. (stimulant type). Will my doc know from a colonoscopy? Does this abuse cause Crohn's disease or result in stoma.

Usually not: By a colonoscopy we usually can't tell if you take too much laxatives, however in some people the colon becomes "black" from longterm laxative use (melanosis), but this is benign without clinical significance.
abuse of laxatives does not cause Crohn's ...Read more

Any suggestions for getting through my preparations for a colonoscopy?

Any suggestions for getting through my preparations for a colonoscopy?

Several Tips: Don't drink your prep too fast. You are more likely to get nausea and vomiting if you chug too fast. Also, don't chill your prep too much. Really cold liquids slow down gastric emptying.

Also, the closer you take the prep to the time of colonoscopy, the cleaner your prep will be. ...Read more

Can you see taenia solium through colonoscopy?

Rarely probably: Taenia solium is a tape worm humans get from eating poorly cooked pork. The primary site is the small intestine but they can grow to 6 or 7 feet in length so I would assume they often extend into the colon and could be seen on colonoscopy. I have never seen one on colonoscopy. ...Read more

Is it possible, through proper sedation, to be awake, aware, relaxed, and pain-free for a colonoscopy?

Is it possible, through proper sedation, to be awake, aware, relaxed, and pain-free for a colonoscopy?

Maybe, Usually No: For this, partial to full anesthesia routine, often with agents which block memory, e.g. Versed. Why? People don’t complain-of/remember pain + makes exam much easier & faster for md. I had exam with Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) 50 mg IV alone; fine through the 1st 2/3 & still remember the images on screen; then intense intestinal cramping began, could not stop it consciously, given 50 mg? & passed out. Awoke later ok. ...Read more

Could you diagnose an intestinal parasite through a colonoscopy?

Could you diagnose an intestinal parasite through a colonoscopy?

It sure can..: Colonscopy is a direct visualization of the inside of colon via a camera and so parasites attaching to the colon wall can be seen and thus diagnosed. For examples, hook worms and giardia etc. Adhere quite well to the walls and so the prep does not clean them out, leaving them to be seen by the colonoscope. Not a pretty sight! If you are concerned, speak to your doc. Good luck. ...Read more

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow and I had a cup of broth that was not completely see through and a cup of red gatorade today. Is that ok?

Can a dr. Detect anal cancer through a colonoscopy?

Can it happen that the tube won't go through as the person might still be very constipated during a colonoscopy procedure? If so, what is done then?

Can it happen that the tube won't go through as the person might still be very constipated during a colonoscopy procedure? If so, what is done then?

It is possible.: Because the goal is to be able to examine the lining of the colon, the laxative given the day before a colonoscopy is very potent. Usually, if it is taken properly, it cleans the colon well. Occasionally, there will still be stool left behind, and if it is too much, the procedure may need to be rescheduled with further laxatives given. ...Read more

Severe diarrhea for 10+ days. After eating, food goes right through. Can barely eat. Had IVs. Colonoscopy was fine. Any recos for help?

NoFood Usually Works: Only consume clear fluids without any sugar, fats or proteins until no diarrhea 2-3 days. This works & is routinely used in hospitals for all sorts of gastrointestinal problems. Hospitals add nasogastric suction for higher/faster efficacy but then IV fluids are required to maintain hydration. After diarrhea stopped restart small amounts liquid foods. Fasting=healthy, burns fat, though not popular. ...Read more

Repeat in 3 yrs.: Adenomas of bowel are divided into 1) tubular, 2) tubulovillous, and 3) villous. #2 encountered in 8-16% of cases. Dysplasia not infrequent and therefore, what was found? Of the adenomas of bowel less than 5% as associated with carcinoma and considering age, an initial evaluation q3yrs would suffice and then spread out the following years. Eventual stool test will detect tumor protein. ...Read more

Can the cecum be seen during a colonoscopy? Or is it through a sigmoidoscopy? Can cancer of the cecum be detected through radiology tests like ct/mri?

Can the cecum be seen during a colonoscopy? Or is it through a sigmoidoscopy? Can cancer of the cecum be detected through radiology tests like ct/mri?

Yes-No-Maybe: Colonoscopy evaluates the entire large intestine, from cecum to rectum. Flexible sigmoidoscopy only goes as far as the left side of the colon, nowhere near the cecum. Routine ct scanning may identify a (large) cecal tumor but is much less sensitive than a colonoscopy; ct colonography is almost as sensitive as a colonoscopy, but is less desirable than colonoscopy since a biopsy cannot be done. ...Read more

Constipation: If the colonoscopy was uncomplicated, its highly unlikely there is an association between your current 5-day problem 2-months after the colo. 5-days of no bowel movement is not uncommon & may be pathological depending on what normal is for you. If not passing gas, have abdominal pain, fever, nausea/vomiting, etc., then it is a problem. See your doctor for an evaluation. ...Read more
