What is a safe bowel prep for a severe GERD patient on a high dose of PPIs? Moviprep, Suprep, Propopik and PEG/Mag Citrate all contain harsh acids.

Bowel prep: Your gastroenterologist is best qualified to answer your question, but I don't feel that any of the recommended preps would be a significant problem for your esophagus while you're on ppi therapy. My guess is that the gastroenterologist has a preference for a good bowel prep and will prescribe it. ...Read more

Can a capsule endoscopy replace an upper endoscopy &colonoscopy for a 3 year old? Is the same prep required for the capsule endoscopy?

Possibly: If you are at an academic center working with pediatric GI and radiology specialists, this can be a great alternative if you just need to look. If they think biopsies are going to be needed, then won't work. And, unfortunately, you do need pretty much the same cleanout so you can get good images form the camera and be able to see what is really going on. Child also has to be able to swallow camera ...Read more

Is it OK to take 300mg Gastrodin twice a day from life extension along with 0.5 MG as needed Ativan (lorazepam) script? I read Gastrodin increases GABA.

Should be: Unfortunately dietary supplements are regulated as a food and not a drug - so you can't really trust the dosage on the label from most brands. As such, it's hard to say whether there will be an interaction or not. I can say that lorazepam increases the activity of the GABA system, so I'm unsure why you'd need both? Hope that helps! ...Read more
