How to keep from vomiting during colonoscopy prep?

How to keep from vomiting during colonoscopy prep?

Basics: Some basic remedies include keeping it cold, using a straw, or mixing / chasing it with something you like. Otherwise you may need a different bowel prep or a dose of an anti-emetic like Phenergan (promethazine) or Reglan before you start.

I keep vomiting during the colonoscopy prep, what can I do?

I keep vomiting during the colonoscopy prep, what can I do?

Take a break: The prep is not getting through your system quick enough, take a break for an hour or so let the nausea resolve, the start again, if your feel nauseas again stop for a bit.

Can I undergo the colonoscopy prep if I've been taking a PPI for two weeks? Will this upset my electrolyte balance further?

Ask doc: Ask the physician who ordered the colonoscopy for you. That doctor might have specific recommendations on which meds you should stop and which to continue prior to your procedure.

I finished my colonoscopy prep several hours ago but I am now just passing water. The odd thing is it is almost neon green. Is this okay? Am I ready?

Colonoscopy prep: Colon preps are designed to remove solid matter, green appearance to the exiting liquid is from bile salts residues that have dissolved in the prep and are being washed out. Your doctor will be able to see everything. Incomplete preps are from retained solids - this can be rectified by using a full liquid diet for 3 or 4 days prior to the prep to minimize the chance of retained solid matter.

Endo/colonoscopy prep instructions say no dairy. Does this mean no milk, cheese, and yogurt, or does it include anything that contains dairy as well?

Endo/colonoscopy prep instructions say no dairy. Does this mean no milk, cheese, and yogurt, or does it include anything that contains dairy as well?

Clear liquids: colonoscopy prep instructions usually require clear liquids along with the actual preparation. Clear liquids are essentially any liquid which you can see through, which precludes any dairy products. Be sure to take all of the preparation, even if the liquid coming out is already clear. Good luck.

I'm doing a colonoscopy prep. I have fibromyalgia and it's flared up as well as having a migraine. I have medication for both but I don't know if I can?

I'm doing a colonoscopy prep. I have fibromyalgia and it's flared up as well as having a migraine. I have medication for both but I don't know if I can?

Can what?: Do you mean you don't know if you can take the colonoscopy prep? If you're feeling too ill from fibromyalgia or migraine, call GI doctor to discuss and re-schedule colonoscopy when you feel better. But be sure to have it done soon. It may save your life.

I have been on clear liquid diet all day and started colonoscopy prep 4.5 hours ago. I have drank 2 liters of movi-prep without a BM. What should I do?

I have been on clear liquid diet all day and started colonoscopy prep 4.5 hours ago. I have drank 2 liters of movi-prep without a BM. What should I do?

Continue prep: Continue the prep as prescribed. If you have not had good BMs prior to time for the procedure, let the doctor who is going to do the procedure know. If your colon is not cleared out, the doctor will not be able to see well enough for the colonoscopy to be of any value. You may need to be prescribed a different bowel prep.

Good morning, I will be starting my colonoscopy prep tomorrow. Can I use a small amount of 2% milk in EARLY morning coffee, then start my clear liquid?

Good morning, I will be starting my colonoscopy prep tomorrow. Can I use a small amount of 2% milk in EARLY morning coffee, then start my clear liquid?

Sure: That amount won't make any difference. But I'm a little concerned that bending this "rule" may lead you to bend a few more. Improper or inadequate prep for a colonscopy is the biggest reason many have to be repeated because the exam was suboptimal/inconclusive. You wouldn't want to repeat it. I would strongly encourage you to follow the prep instructions PRECISELY. It's one day:)

I took my colonoscopy prep 2 and a half hours ago I barely vomitted it up just now. I took 2 bottles of magnesium citrate. My test is 12:30 tomorrow afternoon what should I do?

Wait for prep 2 work: The purpose of the liquid prep (which everyone agrees tastes really awful) is to clean out your colon so the dr using scope can see clearly during the exam. It is designed to cause successive bouts of diarrhea, until you can't go any more. If you only vomited up a little, it may still work as designed. If you don't experience results, call and reschedule the exam. They may give you a diff prep

Can the liquid for colonoscopy prep make u nauseous?

Can the liquid for colonoscopy prep make u nauseous?

Unfortunately yes: Don't drink it too fast-there is no rush. Some people spread it over an hour. Try drinking through a straw so you can't smell it. See if your doctor will let you mix it with apple juice or sprite. Finally, put a wet wash cloth on your neck and sit in a recliner with your feet up. I found that the prep for the colonoscopy was way worse than the procedure itself. Bless your heart!

Is colonoscopy prep the same thing as colon cleansing?

Is colonoscopy prep the same thing as colon cleansing?

Mostly yes: In preparing for colonoscopy ist is necessary that the bowel be relatively clean so that small lesions can be recognized and biopsied if necessary. As such bowel prep is employed. In essence colonoscopy not performed without a prep. Colon cleansing is also a term employed to cleanse the bowel which has impacted with feces and a high colonic enema is used for cleansing.

What kind of protein drinks are fine for colonoscopy prep?

All: As long as there is no bulky fiber (fruit/vegetable products), protein should be 100% digested in the small intestine. As you get closer to colonoscopy time, go to clear liquids. Up to 6 hours before, we allow shakes.
