Colonoscopy Gatorade Prep
I have a colonoscopy tomorrow at 1:30 pm. I'm unable to finish the last 32oz of golytley. Gagging)Can I finish the prep using mirilax and Gatorade? .
Almost equivalent: miralax (polyethylene glycol) is same ingredient of golytely, but mixing with gatorade would change the special salt/sugar balance of the lavage. Making cold, or even squeezing a bit of lemon may take the unpleasant sea-water effect of golytely too. Equally important is what you have been eating before the lavage - no solids and definitely no roughage like fruits and veggies. See how clear stools are becoming. ...Read more
Can I use miralax (polyethylene glycol) and gatorade to prep for my colonoscopy tomorrow, or do I have to use golytely?
I have a colonoscopy tomorrow. I took my bowel prep of about an hour ago. In how much time will it start working? Will a gatorade/miralax mix not work?
May not work: A gatorade and MiraLAX combination is not a common bowel prep in my experience. Miralax is an excellent laxative but if only one dose is taken, it is not likely to clean the colon out as well as is optimal for colonoscopy. A single dose might not produce a bm for a day or 2. Gatorade is an electrolyte-rich drink but not likely as effective as GoLytely or other polyethylene glycol solutions. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Will drinking Gatorade help with leg pain and lower back pain after a colonoscopy? Being that the prep depletes fluids in your body.
Drank all bowel prep (Miralax (polyethylene glycol) and Gatorade) for colonoscopy, 1 hour later nausea and vomiting. What can I do/take for it?
I have a colonoscopy tomorrow and I had a cup of broth that was not completely see through and a cup of red gatorade today. Is that ok?
Yes: The day before the procedure, I believe they put you on a clear liquid diet while taking the cathartic. After midnight, they may put you off any food except water until after the procedure. So until the day before the procedure the gatorade of any flavor is ok. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My husband is going in for colonoscopy today. Is it ok to mix gatorade with colyte (polyethylene glycol)?
Yes: When colonoscopy is performed it its best for the colon to be clean. This can be accomplished with a liquid diet for 48 hrs preceding the procedure and no roughage for a few days before. Golytle is polyethylene glycol which draws fluid into the bowel and helps clean out the stool. Mixing with Gatoraide cant hurt. A fleets enema before also helps. ...Read more
What do you suggest if my husband is going in for colonoscopy today. Is it ok to use gatorade to mix with colyte (polyethylene glycol)?
No problem: GoLytely is a white powder in a 4 liter jug for reconstitution, containing 236 g polyethylene glycol 3350, 22.74 g sodium sulfate (anhydrous), 6.74 g sodium bicarbonate, 5.86 g sodium chloride and 2.97 g potassium chloride. It is employed as a colon diuretic to cleanse the bowel for colonoscopy. Additing or using Gatorade to the volumne is fine. ...Read more
Tuesday I had colonoscopy with biopsy. Wednesday afternoon I started having pain in lower abs. On Gatorade diet since Monday. Today I had black thick liquid stool more than half a cup. What is it? Hlp
What is the safest colonscopy prep. I would like to take the miralax/Gatorade prep. How successful is that? Suggestions please so can talk to my dr.
Possibly: The prep called GoLytly is polyethelyne glycol which when ingested causes an outpouring of body fluid into the GI tract which can lead to dehydration. It is more important to have a bland diet without roughage several days before and use a Fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate) to clean the distal colon. A clean colon is the important issue and not the total use of oral meds to clean out the bowel. ...Read more
Any laxative can!: The goal of the prep is to eliminate stool. Diet plays an important role- avoiding fruits and vegetables for a couple of days helps. Then the laxatives come in. Everyone is different in response to laxatives. Doctors find "preps" they like- if you follow their instructions, you should have a complete exam. ...Read more
Hydrate: Different providers will use different techniques to cleanse the bowel before either a colonoscopy or a surgery. All of these techniques cause flushing of the colon so that contamination is minimized. This leaves the patient in a dehydrated state, so that blood pressure changes with sedation or anesthesia are magnified. I would suggest increasing you clear liquid intake in the 24 hours before the. ...Read more
