R/O IBS: IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. IUC/CROHNS DZ/IBD is inflammation usually DX by BX IBS SX can be managed .You need a full exam and blood work. Especially screen for H pylori . Not exactly...: Irritable bowel syndrome is persistent bowel distress in the ABSENCE of a known physiologic cause. If your Sjogren's is the cause of your GI symptoms then by definition it is NOT IBS. None: In order to cure a disease, doctors first need to know cause. Cause of ibs is unknown. Donnatal (phenobarbital atropine hyoscyamine and scopolamine) & Bentyl are prescription medications with known efficacy. Imo ibs is a functional problem caused by impingement of parasympathetic neural system within the pelvic presacral plexus. Pelvic girdle dysfunction from hypermobility is the culprit. IBS: There is really no specific test for irritable bowel syndrome at this time. It is a diagnosis of exclusion. In-other-words, you have certain symptoms such as bloating, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea and/or constipation. A multitude of tests are done and nothing is found.
