Is colonic irrigation effective?

Is colonic irrigation effective?

Scam: This is a health fraud in which the operator shows normal peristalsis or some other normal but unattractive thing about the lower bowel and tells you it's at the root of your ill-health. Folks feel better because of the sweet talk from the operator. If someone mentions "toxic bowel settlement" or anything similar, phone your local district attorney. ...Read more

~1yr black mold exposure unaware. Sinus symptoms 3 mo. Now had acute exposure; can nasal irrigation push spores deeper&risk dangerous fung infx? Or good2do?

Should be fine: Most sinus/respiratory symptoms related to mold exposure are due to an allergic type reaction as well as irritating toxins. Using irrigation to clear out the spores would help with both of these problems. Serious "invasive" fungal infections of the sinuses are rare and occur in people who have uncontrolled diabetes or severely suppressed immune systems. "Black mold" does not cause these infections ...Read more

Is golytely (polyethylene glycol) fatal to pts with partial obstruction with colon perforation? (Stage 4 CRC with mets to lung)

No: Golytely (polyethylene glycol) is a bowel diuretic drawing fluid into the colon. If there is a patient with partial obstruction and with possible colonic performation, why would a bowel diuretic be employed that could cause a greater leak of GI fluid into the periotoneal cavaity, especially in the face of lung mets.? Laparoscopic evaluation of a possible leak may be necessary if not proven by radiologic evaluation ...Read more

Which one amongst the three can be the most effective tool for severe indoor allergy : 1. Vaccum cleaner 2. De-humidifier 3. Good air purifier?

Which one amongst the three can be the most effective tool for severe indoor allergy :
1. Vaccum cleaner
2. De-humidifier
3. Good air purifier?

Depends: It depends on what allergens you are sensitive to. An Allergist can help figuring that out. As a general rule of thumb: -Vacuum with a HEPA filter: good for dust, animal dander, mold, and other allergens trapped in carpeting (getting rid of it is better) -De-humidifier: good for molds and dust mites -HEPA/UV purifier: molds, animal dander, pollen that comes in, and other irritants. ...Read more

Redundant colon, candidate for elective colon resection. Linzess, miralax no help. Milk of mag or Sennokot 2-3x week helps.Use instead of surgery?

Chronic constipation: Most often, surgery is only considered as a last resort. For some people, having a bowel movement 2 to 3 times per week is normal. If you are able to achieve this using milk of magnesia, then I would not consider surgery at this time. It is always possible to have complications of surgery, and in your situation, it doesn't sound absolutely necessary. Fiber and hydration are key. Good luck. ...Read more

Dear Dentists: The porcelain cover near #12 in 4 units bridge broke. It was made from PFM w/ high noble.Any other rigid materials you recomm to use.

Repair or replace: Sometimes the porcelain fracture can be repaired with a composite material that can be bonded to the existing bridge if the area does not take a lot of chewing stress. Another alternative might be a telescope crown to replace only the segment fracture and save the expense of an entire new bridge. An alternative to a new bridge might be to just replace the missing tooth (teeth) with implant(s) ...Read more

11 y.o w/ fecal impaction, verified via x-ray, and repeated vomiting for 7 wks. Tried oral laxatives, otc enemas, and enema in ER. Any other options?

Gastroenterologist: This serious problem is best handled by a gastroenterologist for diagnosis, treatment and a maintenance dietary and bowel management program providing there is not a structural or mechanical abnormality causing severe constipation and bowel impaction. Perhaps adding a daily medication like senokotS in addition to proper daily water and fiber foods and supplements like psyllium would help. ...Read more

M57, do you approve usage of nasal decongestant xylometazoline;antiallergic cetirizine;antibiotics as holistic approach to combat resistant flu/cold ?

Let's be clear: Antibiotics won't help a cold which is caused by viruses. They'll just give you diarrhea. Afrin spray can dry you up but never use for >72 hours or you'll get rebound nasal congestion with nasal blockade and misery! Cetirizine is excellent for allergy but has minimal benefit for a cold. None of the above would be considered "holistic". ...Read more
