Colon Snake Enema
I did an enema per dr. Orders and it worked but now my colon feels inflamed and feels like its on fire! Ouch! Is that normal?
Is there a homemade solution to use by enema method to soothe my colon pain? Colonoscopy messed me up badly.
Wouldn't go there!: Humans are not designed to have people create homemade solutions to send up the butt. A G.I. Specialist can help, along with a primary care doctor. There may be approved enemas out there, but their effects and their side effects on a particular patient (and his or her underlying medical issues) should be carefully considered before venturing into enema territory. ...Read more
What does "distal decending colon remaining on barium enema" mean in regards to the results from a barium enema test?
Are periodic saline enemas good for your colon since it's cleansing? Can they (enemas) damage your body or are they largely benign/safe to use?
Saline enemas: I know of no evidence that saline enemas are either cleansing or healthy. I recommend you go to UpToDate and look it up. ...Read more

Could I have colon hydrotherapy as a substitute for the "standard" prep for a colonoscopy? Normally use enemas.
If it clears you out: The main purpose of colon prep for colonsocopy is to clean out the stool so that the camera can see the linings of your colon. The 'standard prep" works well because it has been done a gazillion times. I am not sure how good the hydrotherapy will do, but as long as it clean you out (without causing problem for you), I don't see why not! If it does not, u may have to do the standard" good luck. ...Read more
Just a curious student. How long on average would it take for microbe contaminated enema to be absorbed into the blood from the colon? Minutes? More?
Results from barium enema showed that my colon is extremely long and large. That could explain why I have been constipated my whole life... Right?
Chicken or the egg: The term "redundant colon" describes a large intestine (colon) that is longer than normal and as a result has repetitive, overlapping loops. Sometimes the colon starts to be redundant and long from early childhood. Sometimes the colon will become redundant and dilated with accomodate of large amount of retained feces in association with constipation. ...Read more

I would love to clear out my colon just once, to see how I feel. I hear a lot just accumulates & sits. What's best way? Laxative? Softener? No enemas.
Things don't sit: Stuff doesn't sit around in the colon. If constipated, one needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe helpful meds too. ...Read more

Had foam enema for distal UC for 15yrs. Now colonoscopy shows ascending colon affected: might I need different treatment to reach this area?
Have chronic PID but at the moment treated by doctors words, went for barium enema due to pain in colon. They found nothing. What can be the cause?
Treatment for PID: PID is a condition where a pathogen (sexually transmitted) goes up the cervix and uterus and through the fallopian tubes, into the pelvix, causing a more widespread infection. This is separate from your colon and if you're in severe pain, you will need antibiotic treatment, possibly a laparoscopic surgery if imaging shows an abscess. A barium enema would not be helpful for PID. ...Read more
Had an incomplete colonoscopy due to a redundant colon. Going for a barium enema now. If polyps are discovered in that area how can they be removed?
Had xrays= stool formed a stone and right side of colon is dialated. Used enema as instructed and had sharp pain in the right side of my ab?
Possibly go to ER: If you still have severe pain, you should call your physician and if unavailable, go to er. Even hard stool should not cause pain when moving along the colon. The pain may mean that your "stone" got stuck. ...Read more
Constipation side effect from lamictal. Already tried enema and colon prep. Cleared out but back to being full after a week. On stimulants. Advice??
Constipation: Diet should contain adequate fluids, good amounts of fiber and or supplement like Metamucil. Taking a daily bowel stimulant like senokotS (follow directions) which also contains a stool softener and drinking a glass of hot (not too hot) water also helps. Hopefully you can avoid taking harsh laxatives regularly. If you have an urge and can't move, insert dulcolax rectal suppository and or fleets enem ...Read more

I had a colon resection for colon cancer and now have a ostomy. I'm having problems and a barium enema shows filing of the cecum. What would cause thi?
I"m confused: If you have a colostomy, and barium is injected into it, the cecum (the first part of the colon in the rlq) should fill. Now, if the barium is injected into your rectal stump and the barium fills, then there's a tract (fistula) between the rectal stump and the cecum, which is not normal. This should be discussed with the operating surgeon. Good luck. ...Read more
Will taking domperidone before my sigmoidoscopy be okay? Worried ^ gastric emptying will push stool into the sigmoid colon quicker (after enema)
Have ulcerative colitis in sigmoid and ascending colon/cecum (just confirmed by colonoscopy). Will enema treat this (allergic to NSAIDs)?
Consider allergy ref: Thanks for your question. Depending on the NSAID allergy, sometimes it can be desensitized through introduction of small amounts initially, then gradual increase in dose under supervision by an allergy specialist. However, would discuss the side effects/risks/benefits with a specialist. ...Read more
What is the treatment for severe slow colon transit constipation? No laxatives work for me other than enema and stimulant. Doc mentioned Surgery??
AvoidSurgery, likely: End up with more problems: http://goo. Gl/Blh6rW. Physical activity & avoiding delays in evacuation (when slightest urge) typically most effective strategies. Agents which bind water, best above ground veggies (trial & error for which & how much daily required) next best. Mental issues (infancy on) always relevant though hidden except via symptoms. Trial of linaclotide might help for symptoms. ...Read more
