I did an enema per dr. Orders and it worked but now my colon feels inflamed and feels like its on fire! Ouch! Is that normal?

NO!!!: Enema or no enema, it is never normal for any part of your body to feel "inflamed" and "like it's on fire." I don't know specifically why your doctor ordered an enema but please let her know what you have been experiencing since then. ...Read more

Is there a homemade solution to use by enema method to soothe my colon pain? Colonoscopy messed me up badly.

Is there a homemade solution to use by enema method to soothe my colon pain? Colonoscopy messed me up badly.

Wouldn't go there!: Humans are not designed to have people create homemade solutions to send up the butt. A G.I. Specialist can help, along with a primary care doctor. There may be approved enemas out there, but their effects and their side effects on a particular patient (and his or her underlying medical issues) should be carefully considered before venturing into enema territory. ...Read more

Could I have colon hydrotherapy as a substitute for the "standard" prep for a colonoscopy? Normally use enemas.

Could I have colon hydrotherapy as a substitute for the "standard" prep for a colonoscopy? Normally use enemas.

If it clears you out: The main purpose of colon prep for colonsocopy is to clean out the stool so that the camera can see the linings of your colon. The 'standard prep" works well because it has been done a gazillion times. I am not sure how good the hydrotherapy will do, but as long as it clean you out (without causing problem for you), I don't see why not! If it does not, u may have to do the standard" good luck. ...Read more

Just a curious student. How long on average would it take for microbe contaminated enema to be absorbed into the blood from the colon? Minutes? More?

Instantly: Usually this is moot, as there are plenty of microbes in the colon, and amebasis (a risk at the enema parlor) infects colon, not blood. By analogy with the transmission of hiv, however, infectious particles gain access to the bloodstream instantly. ...Read more

I would love to clear out my colon just once, to see how I feel. I hear a lot just accumulates & sits. What's best way? Laxative? Softener? No enemas.

I would love to clear out my colon just once, to see how I feel. I hear a lot just accumulates & sits. What's best way? Laxative? Softener? No enemas.

Things don't sit: Stuff doesn't sit around in the colon. If constipated, one needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe helpful meds too. ...Read more

Have chronic PID but at the moment treated by doctors words, went for barium enema due to pain in colon. They found nothing. What can be the cause?

Treatment for PID: PID is a condition where a pathogen (sexually transmitted) goes up the cervix and uterus and through the fallopian tubes, into the pelvix, causing a more widespread infection. This is separate from your colon and if you're in severe pain, you will need antibiotic treatment, possibly a laparoscopic surgery if imaging shows an abscess. A barium enema would not be helpful for PID. ...Read more

Constipation side effect from lamictal. Already tried enema and colon prep. Cleared out but back to being full after a week. On stimulants. Advice??

Constipation: Diet should contain adequate fluids, good amounts of fiber and or supplement like Metamucil. Taking a daily bowel stimulant like senokotS (follow directions) which also contains a stool softener and drinking a glass of hot (not too hot) water also helps. Hopefully you can avoid taking harsh laxatives regularly. If you have an urge and can't move, insert dulcolax rectal suppository and or fleets enem ...Read more

I had a colon resection for colon cancer and now have a ostomy. I'm having problems and a barium enema shows filing of the cecum. What would cause thi?

I"m confused: If you have a colostomy, and barium is injected into it, the cecum (the first part of the colon in the rlq) should fill. Now, if the barium is injected into your rectal stump and the barium fills, then there's a tract (fistula) between the rectal stump and the cecum, which is not normal. This should be discussed with the operating surgeon. Good luck. ...Read more
