If one has bowel problems, he can see his primary care doctor or a gastroenterologist. Colonic cleaning or irrigation is not natural, and can be dangerous if the person's chemical balance is distorted. ...Read more

Has anyone used acai berry and cleansing colon diet and bled?

Has anyone used acai berry and cleansing colon diet and bled?

Please don't: Healthtap physicians have repeatedly addressed colon "cleansers" with a clear "no" answer. There is virtually no value to colon flushes, cleansers, enemas, irrigation machines when the technique is accomplished to "detox" or eliminate "accumulated waste." the "no" response also applies to liver detoxes! there are few real health benefits, but sigificant unjustified risk, as you've experienced. ...Read more

Diet for diverticulitis?

Diet for diverticulitis?

Early vs. Late: Acute diverticulitis is associated with swelling of the colon that may create a temporary partial blockage of the colon. Therefore, we often advocate no food or just liquids during the initial phase of treatment. When food is resumed, it is common to recommend a low-residue diet early on. After the inflammation resolves, we often recommend high-fiber diets, which may reduce the risk of recurrence. ...Read more

Not recommended, but: I'M ALL FOR IT IF by "cleanse" you mean adopting a healthy lifestyle with routine exercise, cutting out tobacco, reducing alcohol & sugary drinks, minimizing highly processed foods & fats, & adding in lean proteins, whole fruits, vegetables, & nuts. I've tried linzess trulance miralax psyllium and other fiber supplements diets my stool is still pencil thin. Is triphala safe?

Safe enough: Triphala is an herbal formula used in Aruvedic medicine often for bowel problems/relief of constipation. It consists of at least three plants; it is not clear what chemical is responsible for it's effects. I would be more skeptical that it would provide any benefit for you, if the other things you list have not, more than I would be worried it was unsafe. You could try it without expecting too much ...Read more

Schedule changes: May try getting up 15 minutes earlier, exercising, and then having a warm breakfast and then time to go to the bathroom for bowel function. This is retraining your bowel and may help. This may take a few days to help, but please be patient. Cut back on dairy products, as this can cause constipation.
