What can be done for colon cancer spread to liver when patient has low ejection fraction heart?

Difficult: Sorry. It sounds like a difficult situation. Options may be chemotherapy, intra-arterial chemotherapy injected onto the liver, radiofrequency ablation performed in radiology, etc. Depends on size & location of tumor in the liver. Need to coordinate carefully with the treating physians, oncologist & cardiologist. Best wishes. ...Read more

What is the life expectancy of a 78 year old, Stage 4 colon cancer spread to liver and lungs? Having chemotherapy (tablets) but losing weight.

What is the life expectancy of a 78 year old, Stage 4 colon cancer spread to liver and lungs? Having chemotherapy (tablets) but losing weight.

Life expectancy: At 78, with stage IV colon cancer, the survival is about 4-6 months without treatment. With the new treatments combining chemo with biological drugs, survival times are in the range of 24-30 months. With a less aggressive treatment I estimate an AVERAGE survival of 9-12 months. Keep in mind these estimates are just a ball park figure, keep things one month at a time. ...Read more

My fathers colon cancer spread to the liver with several lesions on the liver. He now has larger lesions with one measuring 9.6 CM x8.5 cm. Prognosi?

Poor: This is stage 4. For patients with colon cancer and liver lesions that could be totally resected, the 5 year overall survival can be 20% or more. Unfortunately in your father cases, the liver lesions are unlikely resectable. The 5 year overall survival for stage 4 is 6%. ...Read more

Are there any new cancer drugs for colon cancer spread to the liver? My father is very ill and needs help.

Are there any new cancer drugs for colon cancer spread to the liver? My father is very ill and needs help.

Consider new trials: If i were in your father's position, i would consider being in a research trial (if one is available) for metastatic colon cancer. None of the approved therapies for this is curative; they are all palliative. I would probably favor something with an immune-based approach rather than a cell poison, if any such trial is available. This is just a personal preference i'm voicing. ...Read more

My father has colon cancer spread to the liver and oncology is recommending capecitabine or raltitrexed he has myocarditis would you recommend any?

Capecitabine: His case will need proper review in terms of what chemo therapeutic agents he had already received in past. Capecitabine or Xeloda (capecitabine) not a good choice in pts with myocarditis as it is know to causes coronary spasm and angina type symptoms also. Praletrexate is not indicated for it also. ...Read more
