Cold Sweat Prednisone
Had been Prednisone for 14 days. Started at 20mg/day, increased to 40mg/day then stopped cold. Now having night sweats. Is it a withdrawal symptom?
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more

I used prednisone for 3 days for gout. 60mg first, then 40, 20.Stopped because of sweats. Will I get effects. Been off for 36 hrs. Little light head.?
Sweating and: Light-headedness are well-known side effects of steroids and should go away a few days after you're off the prednisone. As dr. Namey noted, steroids are usually not the first line of treatment for gout, but there are times when non-steroidal antiinflammatories are either dangerous or can't be used (like in diabetics or patients with kidney disease), in which case Prednisone is used. I'm 21 & have been taking prednisone daily for 2 weeks (20 mg & now 10) due to mono. My doctor wants me to stop the 10 mg cold turkey. Is this safe?
Only 2wks so OK: Prednisone 20mg is not a high dose at all and only using for 2 wks, weaning is not necessary. You are 21 yr old and presumably have no other health issue, I would be very surprised if you feel anything at all from stopping the Prednisone at this stage. I wish you a speedy recovery from the mono (aka kissing disease). Best of luck to you. Read more
Before a cold front came in my rheumatologist gave me a prednisone shot which helped a lot for a day, I thought fibromyalgia didn't respond to steroids?
Difference of Opini: It is believed that because level of cortisol is low in patients with fibromyalgia, so they recommend low doses of steroids. But there is difference of opinion by others do not believe in it but steroid shot if it made you feel better for one day was not a good response to steroids in your case in my opinion discuss with your doctor what he feels and reason for him/her giving you steroid shot. I have Severe Bronchitis. My Dr gave me Tyl w/codeine for fever and coughing, plus a prednisone shot & pills, an antibiotic. Is Tyl #4 used for colds?
Its for your PAIN: Tylenol (acetaminophen) #4 is an Opiate Analgesic like Vicodin Used for PAIN. It contains 60mg of codeine and 300mg of Tylenol (acetaminophen). Codeine metabolizes into morphine (1/10th of the dose) so its about 6mg of oral morphine per does with Tylenol (acetaminophen) for the added pain relief. As Hydrocodone has been rescheduled to CII, it leaves physician's with codeine as the strongest opiate that can be refilled, less habit forming. Read more
