I've had cold sores once per year for years but now have herpes once a month on different parts of my skin like elbow, knee. Why? I don't play sports

Eczema possibly : The elbow is a common spot for eczema to flare up. If there is a history of eczema, allergies or asthma it increases chance of it being eczema.
