Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate): Ask your dentist to write a rxn for peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate). It is an antimicrobial mouth rinse. You can rinse your brush head in hot water, then let it soak in this for 15 - 30 minutes, then rinse again and allow to dry. Possible but unlikel: Hi Roy. It's possible for someone to shed the herpes virus and be asymptomatic. People with oral herpes may secrete the virus 2% to 9% of the time when they are not having sores. That being said, if they are asymptomatic and secreting the virus, the amount of virus being shed is much less. You can be tested for infection. No risk, no worries: Self transfer of HSV to a new body area is rare. The immune system prevents it, so little or no risk even without neosporin. If there were some risk, the preserative in the ointment would kill the virus. However, I suggest you not use neosporin for herpes; it won't help and might even delay healting.
