Rarely, HSV-2 can cause oral herpes given the increased practices of oral sex compared with decades ago (i.e. the 1950s). May be oral aphthae: Herpes inside the mouth is uncommon. Oral aphthous ulcers are much more likely. The cause of oral aphthae is not known; sometimes oral ulcers are associated with other diseases or with systemic medication. Canker sores are not viral, and they are not infectious - they are similar to other immune type reactions, such as dermatitis, etc, and are frequently related to stress (local or systemic).
