Cold Sore Outbreak Female Reproductive System
43-yr old female. Could increased acne, cold sores and uti's be connected? Immune system? Diet? I'm falling apart!
Partner has cold sore and sex occurs (no oral-genital contact) is risk of genital herpes? Transfer from hands possible? How long until symptoms occur?
Herpes New Info: The way you are wording this question is almost impossible to interpret. First all sexually active adults must have a blood test to see what their herpes exposure history is. The place of the sores do not count anymore. There is no transmission of herpes from one part of one's body to another. Hsv 1 is very common and hsv 2 i much less common. Get the blood tests and then we can solve this. ...Read more

See an OB/GYN: This is not necessarily any immune defect. This can happen to totally normal women. For best management, however, a trained experience clinician with good communication skills would be the best person to discuss this with. ...Read more

Cold sores - HSV1: Yes - cold sores and fever blisters are the same thing and are most commonly caused by HSV-1. Rarely, HSV-2 can cause oral herpes given the increased practices of oral sex compared with decades ago (i.e. the 1950s). You will note STRESS causes these to come out (for example after a fever from another illness), so best to keep stress levels to an absolute minimum. These are infectious to others BTW ...Read more
Hsv1+ and hsv2- for blood antibodies. Had cold sores before. Can I also get genital hsv 1 if exposed? Having swollen glands in groin. Itchy and tingle
No: If a person has antibodies to HSV1 (has immunity), she should not get new HSV1 infections in places that she did not get HSV1 sores in the past. New herpes lesions on the genitals would be presumed HSV2 (if the HSV2 antibodies turned positive on the blood tests after the new genital herpes sores). Life can surprise you sometimes. Maybe HSV1 was in the genitals in the past but wasn't noticeable. ...Read more
Can herpes that causes innocent oral fever blisters & cold sores be sexually transited to someone else as genital herpes?
Herpes - HSV1 & HSV2: Yes - unfortunately there can be cross over between the 2 different types of herpes. These viruses are always adapting and looking for 'new opportunities' and although traditionally, HSV-1 kept to the mouth/nose and HSV-2 kept to the genital tract, there can be 'back and forth' transmission of these viruses in susceptible patients. This is a reminder to keep ALL safe sex practices in mind! ...Read more
Other sources: 80-90% of all adults are positive for the antibodies against herpes simplex 1, meaning they have had an active infection sometime in the past. Given these really high numbers for the general population, one does not need to invoke that a blood transfusion that happened as an infant was the cause. ...Read more
Took wicoryl, levocetrizine, amoxillin, azithromycin during rabies vaccination due to sore throat, fever and chills. Is this fine? Immune supressed?
Yes: Assuming your doctor recommended these antibiotics to treat an infection, this is fine. None of the medications mentioned will conflict with the others. Rabies vaccine is a killed vaccine so you may not mount as strong a response to the vaccine. If you were exposed to rabies prior to vaccine, you may need an additional dose on day 28 and should by now have had rabies immune globulin ...Read more
Diagnosed w/ hsv1&hsv2. Hsv2 was cultured from genitals. Hsv1 antibodies in bloodwork. W/ no cold sore, would kissing my daughter spread it to her?
Confusion with label: Decades ago we looked at T1 as cold sore & T2 as genital, but no more. Whether changes in sexual practices or better research, we know that both types give rise to genital herpes. You cannot pass either type to your kid by kissing without an active cold sore. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Cold chills, body ache, and sore throat... What over-the-counter medicine can II take if im breastfeeding?
Can HSV1 genitally cause one swollen lymph node in the groin during primary outbreak? Also, is it rare to spread HSV1 to partners during vaginal sex?
Follow up: dr. Raff -- you said that canker sores do not cause genital herpes. Are canker sores herpes simplex 1 just like a cold sore?
Canker sores: Aphthous stomatitis is not due to herpes simplex. Dr. Namey and dr. Perkins have provided excellent advice and would read these carefully. The location of the herpetic lesions (oral v. Genital) no longer is specific for types 1;2. Cold sores may be herpetic, but not canker sores. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Have wrong info. Herpes 1 IgG positive. Herpes II IgG indeterminate. How is herpes 1 transmitted via flu or cold sores stress?
Herpes simplex: Herpes simplex is transmitted by direct contact with a lesion or the body fluid of an infected individual.Transmission may also occur through skin-to-skin or mucous membrane contact during periods of asymptomatic shedding. Barrier protection methods are the most reliable method of preventing transmission of herpes, but they merely reduce rather than eliminate risk. ...Read more

Suddenly: canker sores, recurrent cold sores, yeast infections w/ any sexual contact, blepharitis & had vaginal streptococcus. Underlying immune issue?
Yes: A family doc or infectious disease doctor could run a panel of tests to check it. I am not sure medical science is advanced enough to do anything about it. IVIG infusions are sometimes effective in patients with low globulins, but is terribly expensive, not covered by most insurance AND exposes you to the mercies of possible unknown blood born pathogens. Worth getting it checked if getting worse. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
