Is there a lab test that can be done to determine if I have hsv type 1 ? The sore is gone, but the Dr. Who told me was a cold sore, seemed unsure.

HSV1 blood test: Yes, a blood test can tell if you are infected with HSV1, the usual cause of oral herpes (cold sores). Alternatively, you can wait and see if you have another outbreak, and the sore can be tested for the virus. If you google "cold sore" or "oral herpes", you can find photos of typical outbreaks to help determine if that's what you have. ...Read more

Could you contract HSV if someone licked their fingers then fingered you? No sign of cold sore noticed on mouth, and how fast would you get symptoms?

Could you contract HSV if someone licked their fingers then fingered you? No sign of cold sore noticed on mouth, and how fast would you get symptoms?

Extremely unlikely: In theory, such indirect exposure could result in transmission. But this happens very rarely, if ever. Don't worry about it. ...Read more

Unlikely: that they are related. The cold sore Herpes is a different virus than the genital version. I completely understand your concern, but the two are very unlikely to be related. If you start having blisters on your penis, see your doctor. I have included a picture of herpes for your convenience. Hope this helps! ...Read more

My son has white deep pigmentation around his mouth it started when a doctor gave him steroid cream to treat cold sore . He is 3 what can I do to help?

Correct info?: First of all, are you sure it was a cold sore and secondly, are you sure it was a "steroid" cream? True cold sores are caused by the herpes virus and steroids actually spread the virus. One also has to be careful what one uses on 3 year olds regarding topical medications. I would discuss these matters with the doctor who prescribed the medication or check with a dermatologist. ...Read more
