How does sulfasalazine measure up to other 5-asa drugs such as asacol (mesalamine) and colazal for ulcerative colitis?
Im passing asacol (mesalamine) out whole. Does colazal release differently than asacol (mesalamine) or is it also pH dependent? And does it work the same?
Different release: While Asacol (mesalamine) release is ph dependent, Colazal does not become active until the drug reaches the colon where bacteria there splits the drug up into an active state. In fact, the capsule is just a formality as the Colazal powder can be swallowed whole - as it is available overseas. I take balsalazide and I have bright yellow diarrhea i been havering a lot of diarrhea hi dr said it ok because i'm in a new medication?

My PCP says I might have colitis. Balsalazide didn’t work and prednisone worked but caused weight gain.Is there a drug that doesn’t cause weight gain?
Take balsalazide 750 mg day number 54795 I went to get more and they ran out so they gave me some to last a week but the color is different is it old?
