Besides propanolo and cogentin, (benztropine) what other meds can be used for akathisia?

Akathisia: For specific treatment advice, ask your neurologist or psychiatrist. Not much scientific evidence guides clinical judgment if Propranolol has failed; still, consider asking your doctor about other lipophilic beta-blockers, benzodiazepines, levetiracetam, valproic acid, or tricyclic antidepressants. Good luck! ...Read more

Used to be extremely strong until geodon (ziprasidone) risperdal celexa wellbutrin cogentin. Now body feels muscles are not supporting joints or strengthening body?

Go see your doctor: I can't tell if you're taking both Geodon (ziprasidone) & Risperdal at same time as these are both antipsychotics and can affect your muscle tone. Tell your prescribing physician (psychiatrist, right/) what's going on. You may need adjustment of dose and/or regimen. ...Read more

I take Abilify (aripiprazole) for my bipolar disorder because nothing else works for me. I love it, but I have to take cogentin daily to prevent td spasms. Can td become permanent?

I take Abilify (aripiprazole) for my bipolar disorder because nothing else works for me. I love it, but I have to take cogentin daily to prevent td spasms. Can td become permanent?

Dystonia: Dystonic reactions (the "spasms" you mention) are more acute than tardive dyskinesia, a chronic disorder which can become permanent. Cogentin can relieve dystonia, and perhaps combat td but not as well. Adjusting antipsychotic medicines to the smallest effective dose that controls psychotic symptoms can be challenging. Abilify (aripiprazole) seems to present less movement issues than other antipsychotics. ...Read more

What are some herbal remedies to counteract the sexual side effects of cogentin (benztropine)?

I know of none: It may be that you are actually having side-effects to another medication you are taking, such as the one(s) in which Cogentin (benztropine) is prescribed to prevent side-effects. Antipsychotic medications are notorious for causing sexual side-effects. Cogentin (benztropine) is prescribed to prevent other side-effects from the antipsychotics, such as stiffness, tremors and restlessness. ...Read more

Can pseudoparkinson be treated with cogentin (benztropine)?

Depends: The severity and extent of parkinsonian symptoms, assuming what's being referred to is via other medications, will respond differently to different approaches. Some aspects may respond well (e.g. akathisia) and others not so much (e.g. dystonia) if using those drugs used to treat Parkinson Disease. Suggest a discussion with your doctor to assess what are the targets for therapy and side effects. ...Read more

Can cogentin (benztropine) cause memory loss?

Can cogentin (benztropine) cause memory loss?

Yes : Cogentin is benztropine and is used in psychiatry to treat medication side effects. It is highly anticholinergic, which means it can bind you up, blur your vision or make it hard to pee. However, too much of it clouds thinking and memory, in fact, the drugs used to treat alzheimer's have the opposite effect and benztropine is contraindicated in alzheimer's as a result ...Read more
