Allergic to morphine, vicodin, codeine, nsaids. Chronically ill, looking for pain relief. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is useless. Tramadol ok? Other suggestions?

No other disease?: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... Should be checked: Pain on the left side or under the belly button could be diverticulitis. R lower could be a chronic appendicitis. You state to be taking laxatives so I believe defecation is difficult. Lots of water : Best of all is drink plenty of fluids, especially water. That is, if you don't have an underlying medical condition that prevents you from drinking too much fluids (dialysis patients, CHF, SIADH) . Walk as it promotes GI motility . COLACE (docusate sodium): I recommend to my patients colace (docusate) one every 12 hours. It's a stool softener that helps draw water into your colon to flush things along.
