How long do prodromal symtpoms of herpes first outbreak lastburning/tingling in thigh vagina anus abdomen x 9 days. Is herpes? Will blisters happen?

I would go : In. The distribution of pain is wide fore genital herpes. The prodrome in a first episode is usually a viral type illness, then breakout. One would expect lesions after 9 days but it can be tricky in that there are times when it causes pain without blisters. If that is what u have i would b suprised? Gd luck. ...Read more

Female 35. 1.5x2.5" red rash spinal area above tailbone. Mild pain, light blistering. Would suspect shingles if it was in any other location. Thoughts?

Blisters: If the eruption is only on one side of the spine, shingles is a definite possibility. If the eruptions are on both sides or in the middle other herpes infection is possibility. Since these are all treatable, I recommend that you be examined by your physician or dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment. ...Read more

Cluster of 4 small blisters on wrist, no pain or itching, nothing ever around genitals, could it be genital herpes?

Very unlikely: Neither HSV2 (the usual cause of genital herpes) nor HSV1 (almost all oral herpes) is likely to involve the wrist. Herpes zoster (shingles) is the only herpes infection that would do this. See your doctor if more lesions appear or if it becomes painful, or if you otherwise remain concerned. ...Read more

Sudden Recurrent wound by upper lip. Itches, tingles, swells. Forms blister, crusts over, bleeds. Blood work & swab neg for hsv. What else could it be?

Still maybe herpes: This still sounds like herpes despite the negative test results. Up to 30% of people with HSV1 have negative blood tests for it, so that result doesn't mean much. Try another swab test when you have a fresh blister (within 2 days of onset), and make sure they do a PCR test, not culture. Good luck. ...Read more

Mri-large disc bulge L5 s1. Pain (hip/lower leg) some numbness to lower leg/foot & toes. Suffering 10 weeks. Will it heal on its own or need surgery?

Mri-large disc bulge L5 s1. Pain (hip/lower leg) some numbness to lower leg/foot & toes. Suffering 10 weeks. Will it heal on its own or need surgery?

Enough time passed: 8 to 12 weeks is an adequate time to allow non-surgical treatments, as you already received, to work. After that, it is unlikely that you will improve without surgery. Other important factors are your neurological exam, the size of the disc herniation, your pain level. At some point, the risk/benefit ratio tilts in favor of surgical treatment for immediate pain relief. See your spine specialist. ...Read more

Can't figure out these symptoms Non-exertional chest pain, cold hands, unilateral swollen interphalangeal thumb joint w/o trauma, dyspnea on awakening?

Think rheumatic dz: Definitely confusing! Nontraumatic IP joint swelling, especially in the thumb, brings to mind rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A common complication of RA is costochondritis which affects the rib joints (chest pain) & a variant called Caplan's Syndrome leads to lung nodules. Other autoimmune diseases may mimic RA (lupus?) but testing by a Rheumatologist may sort things out for u. Good Luck! Thanx 4 ur Q ...Read more

Thanks. Today I have a slight itch on the blisters. Can hsv blisters occur 4 weeks post exposure? Can hsv2 first outbreak appear on belly?

Herpes: HSV 2 can certainly appear 4 weeks after exposure. They can appear anywhere but the abdomen is a less common area. Have you confirmed that these blisters are actually herpes? Testing should be done to confirm this before you amen assumptions. Shingles is a more likely cause of blisters on the abdomen. Consider a virtual visit on healthtap with one of primary care doctors to show them an image. ...Read more

Will genital herpes cause buttock ache/ back of leg ache even though rash is elsewhere? I.e penis

Will genital herpes cause buttock ache/ back of leg ache even though rash is elsewhere? I.e penis

Probably not, but...: This depends on the nature and timing of hte pain. If the buttoch/leg discomfort is at the same time as a genital herpes outbreak, or starts 1-2 days before, and if it clears up in another day or two. they may be linked. If you're talking about more chronic or persistent, ongoing pain, and not associated with herpes outbreaks, then almost certainly it's an entirely separate problem. ...Read more
