When you treat a cytomegalovirus infection, does the CMV antibody count lower?

When you treat a cytomegalovirus infection, does the CMV antibody count lower?

Sort of: The body has different antibodies in response to any infection. The IgM antibodies usually rise during an active infection and are a sign that the body is fighting something. I had CMV antibody IgG blood test, is there a seperate test for igm?

I had CMV antibody IgG blood test, is there a seperate test for igm?

CMV: You can order separate IgG and IgM for CMV. I have to wonder if the lab you use does the IgG first and if negative runs the IgM as a positive IgG would usually mean past exposure. However, I would call the ordering physicians/CNMs office and confirm if they ordered both IgG and IgM. ...Read more

Cmv antibody IgG test result-38, test said "current vs. prior exposure unclear" im 40 yrs., body aches for 3 mos., should i request IgM test too?

Sorry - wrong track: I'm concerned we are on the 'wrong track' here. CMV is not really a major problem for a 'normal' patient. I think your lab testing and evaluation should concentrate on different possibilities. Have you had muscle enzyme testing? Thyroid? Lyme? Rheumatological tests? Evaluation of medications? Almost everyone has been exposed to CMV -so it's no wonder your IgG is positive. IgM would have no value. ...Read more

8 weeks pregnant, CMV test shows positive and high IgG antibodies and negative igm, is it ok for pregnancy?

Yes: The high IGG levels mean your baby is protected from CMV if you are exposed. The low IGM level means you have no evidence of a recent or ongoing CMV infection that would hurt your baby.Good luck. ...Read more

Help with blood results: EBV VCA IgG >8.0, EBV IgM neg. CMV antibody IgG 38, EBV NA antibody >8.0. Can it explain my body aches? Why or why not?

Help with blood results: EBV VCA IgG >8.0, EBV IgM neg. CMV antibody IgG 38, EBV NA antibody >8.0. Can it explain my body aches? Why or why not?

Old infection: with EBV is the pattern of IgG positive (including NA) and IgM negative. I assume the CMV which is a different infection is also the IgG? If so, both are old infections and do not usually explain your current symptoms. This is a pattern that shows immunity to these infections. Look for other causes. ...Read more

Is CMV (cytomegalovirus) really that big a deal? Or is it only a big deal if you're pregnant?

Is CMV (cytomegalovirus) really that big a deal? Or is it only a big deal if you're pregnant?

Depends: Most have this as a benign viral illness in childhood. They develop antibodies to it and if normal, never need to worry about it. If you get it for the FIRST time while pregnant, it can pass to the fetus and cause a variety of problems from deafness to brain damage. It is from a family of viruses that hibernate in your body and can make you sick later if you are ever immune suppressed. ...Read more
