Cmv Infection (Definition)

CMV= cytomegalovirus, a virus in the herpesvirus family that can infect anyone. CMV is spread by direct contact of body fluids, such as saliva, blood, urine, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. CMV infection can have a wide range of symptoms from no symptoms to symptoms of fever and fatigue (resembling infectious mononucleosis) to severe symptoms involving brain, ...Read more

? Active infection: It's impossible for me to answer with certainty since i don't know the normal ranges your lab uses. If early ag & vca igm are elevated above normal this indicates active ebv infection.I don't know if it is acute or chronic without knowing your history. If chronic i see that as a sign of poor immune function.Immune-boosting herbs/supplements & IV vit c drips may help, but find why immunity is poor. ...Read more

Ebvab VCA IgM <36 (range 0-35.9), ebvearly antigenab IgG 37 (0-8.9), ebvab VCA IgG >600 (0-17.9), EBV nuclearantigenab IgG 409 (0-17.9) mono? No mono?

You had mono...: Your mono-like symptoms likely prompted the testing- i hope you are starting to feel a little better. Testing for different antibodies (igm and igg) against ebv, requires careful interpretation. In early phases of infection, the igm level peaks first followed by a decline; levels of igg peak afterwards, and may remain elevated for quite a while. ...Read more

What does a high EBV viral nuclear capsid antibody, a high EBV viral capsid antibody IgG and a high IgM EBV viral capsid antibody mean, what's it mean?

What does a high EBV viral nuclear capsid antibody, a high EBV viral capsid antibody IgG and a high IgM EBV viral capsid antibody mean, what's it mean?

Likely immunity,,: You've got antibodies to the ebv which likely means you were infected at some time in your life and you recovered and now your body has circulating antibodies to it. An igg antibody in particular indicates long term resistance. This virus usually causes asymptomatic infection so you probably fought it off and weren't aware of it. Best of luck. ...Read more

What does a high EBV viral capsid antibody IgM mean?

What does a high EBV viral capsid antibody IgM mean?

DIAGNOSIS IS MONO:: Acute phase of infectious mononucleosis is characterized by rapid igm and igg antibody response to viral capsid antibody(vca) in all patients. The test may remain positive from 4 weeks, occasionally up to 4 months. ...Read more

What does a high EBV viral capsid antibody IgG mean?

What does a high EBV viral capsid antibody IgG mean?

Past EBV infection: The presence of igg to the ebv capsule means that your body was exposed at some time in the past to ebv and made antibodies against it. It is at its highest level 2-3 months after the initial infection, and it will always be present. An elevated igm level would be consistent with current/recent infection. ...Read more

Reactivated EBV 9 months after first infection. Could i be immunodeficient? Antibody count: 65 ab VCA igm; 53 ea ab igg; 431 ab VCA igg; 289 ebna igg.

No: Unfortunately ebv stays alive forever in one's lymphocytes and can get activated easily in susceptible people without known immunodeficiency. However you may call that an immunodeficiency given that all people have been infected with it yet only few would have recurrent ebv problem. ...Read more

VZV IgG titer= 1926, VZV IgM titer >3.91 with reactivated shingles present. What does test mean? Active VZV infection? Is 1926 dangerously high.

No it just means: You had chickenpox previously. It is not dangerous at all . The IGm is what tell that you have reactivated and then it is called shingles. You can't have shingles if you did not have chickenpox before. ...Read more

EBV early antigen Ab, IgG <9; EBV Eb, VcA, IgG >600; EBV nuclear antigen Ab IgG 108. Diagnossed with CAEBV infection. Does this sound right to you?

Maybe.: The profile is of a past infection. I am not sure if it can be diagnosed just by symptoms and evidence of past infection. I think you would need the second criteria of diagnosis which is DNA of EBV in peripheral tissue or blood detectable through PCR test with a low anti-EA. Having said that, it would help to have the actual values of the results. The one item of interest is high ALT. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely for three months and redo the test. What is the toxoplasma IgG and IgM antibody test?

You've met it: When one meets the toxoplasmosis organism (mild flu-like or no illness), IgM usually appears and may stay around for as long as 18 months. CMV: You can order separate IgG and IgM for CMV. I have to wonder if the lab you use does the IgG first and if negative runs the IgM as a positive IgG would usually mean past exposure. Cmv antibody IgG test result-38, test said "current vs. prior exposure unclear" im 40 yrs., body aches for 3 mos., should i request IgM test too?

Sorry - wrong track: I'm concerned we are on the 'wrong track' here. CMV is not really a major problem for a 'normal' patient. I think your lab testing and evaluation should concentrate on different possibilities. Have you had muscle enzyme testing? Thyroid? Lyme? Rheumatological tests? Evaluation of medications? Almost everyone has been exposed to CMV -so it's no wonder your IgG is positive. IgM would have no value. ...Read more

Old infection: with EBV is the pattern of IgG positive (including NA) and IgM negative. I assume the CMV which is a different infection is also the IgG? Is CMV (cytomegalovirus) really that big a deal? Or is it only a big deal if you're pregnant?

Is CMV (cytomegalovirus) really that big a deal? Or is it only a big deal if you're pregnant?

Depends: Most have this as a benign viral illness in childhood. They develop antibodies to it and if normal, never need to worry about it. If you get it for the FIRST time while pregnant, it can pass to the fetus and cause a variety of problems from deafness to brain damage. It is from a family of viruses that hibernate in your body and can make you sick later if you are ever immune suppressed. ...Read more

Igm informs recent exposure; igg shows past exposure. Presence of rash indirectly suggests an active clinical evidence. Presence of an igg and absence of igm antibodies suggests a non contagious state. ...Read more
