What medications are used for ptsd?

Another medicine: Another medicine is Minipress (prazosin) which can be used for ptsd nightmares. It works by crossing the blood brain barrier & blocking norepinephrine (a chemical like adrenalin) acting in the brain. Prazosin was first used for ptsd in 1995. Trauma nightmares are true-life situations, extremely realistic, and they are accompanied by an adrenaline storm which does not happen with bad dreams.

Why was I prescribed Valium for ptsd?

Why was I prescribed Valium for ptsd?

Ask your doctor: It's best to ask the physician who prescribed this, as there are no rigid algorithms of what to prescribe for ptsd. Valium is inexpensive and can be both a muscle relaxant and calm anxiety; muscle tension and anxiety can easily be part of ptsd. Valium can also be habit-forming, though, and is usually not the first thing most psychiatrists would prescribe. Hopefully you're also in therapy?

Could you ever have ADHD and ptsd.?

Yes: I have seen a number of patients who have both disorders. It can make life unmanageable. In this situation, I usually try to help get the ptsd symptoms under control before focusing on the adhd. One must be careful in what order medications are prescribed as adhd medications can sometime exacerbate ptsd (if not already at some level of control).
