Whatever works: Either drug may be effective. Both are benzodiazepines. Both have strongly addictive profiles. Both are respiratory depressants and mood depressants. Both are significantly augmented by alcohol consumption. The less you take of a "benzo" the better off you are. This class of drugs needs frequent monitoring to avoid problems. ...Read more
Yes: Ativan (lorazepam) is a benzodiazipine, this class of meds can be addicting, even small doses used over an extended period of time can be very difficult to stop. Some people take them as prescribe and find it very hard to stop, others can be more overtly addicted and continue to take higher and higher doses. In general best for short term use only. Hard to say: Xanax (alprazolam) is much more potent than temazepam. You also have not shared the dosage of your xanax (alprazolam). Both: Both medications can be addictive. Xanax (alprazolam) acts quickly which is why it is desired by most people. Ativan acts relatively quickly as well but not as immediate as xanax (alprazolam). Both medications can be addicting and should only be taken as needed or as advised by your physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Lunesta (eszopiclone): Lunesta (eszopiclone) is by far the safest of the three. Ambien causes too much sleep-eating, sleep-walking, sleep talking, and even sleep driving. I have not seen any of this with lunesta (eszopiclone). Silenor is horrifically expensive for an old generic drug in low doses and is probably the closest in effect to benadryl. I don't know of anyone that has switched into mania on it, but it is a theoretical possibility. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Not fun: Usually the strategy is to slowly taper off the benzo and use a long-acting one, and sometimes it's really, really slow. Here's a trick i sometimes suggest to my patients: when your dose is pretty low, gently drag you pill across an emery board before you take it. One time the first day, two times the next, etc. That way you're very gradually cutting the dose down. Good luck and stick with it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not really...: Probably not a good idea to mix these drugs together. An interaction effect with an increase in anxiety, insomnia, memory disturbance, and possible excessive sedation. Talk to your doctor about possible alteration of the dose and type of medicine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No.: You haven’t said what your doses are or what time. If you take them both at bedtime, then you increase the risk of behavioral and cognitive adverse effects, which zolpidem is notorious for. (Above all, don’t add alcohol.) And there can be a first time, when problems haven’t happened previously. Instead, discuss with your prescriber an alternative approach to your sleep problem. ...Read more
Cloneazepam ambien (zolpidem): wow you are taking two medications that work on the Benzo receptor. Your Ambien (zolpidem) is far too high and current recommendation is that ambien (zolpidem) should not exceed 6.25mg and only to be used short duration. So I guess its not okay to use both at the same time. ...Read more

How to keep ambien (zolpidem) working? Only med that has ever worked for me. Will it have cross tolerance with other Meds like klonopin? I know it's short term but the belsomra rx I was given doesn't look promising at all.
Not sure there is a: way. The use of ambien (zolpidem) may not continue if you develop tolerance. You might ask your doc if the dose is right. You have not mentioned your dose, it can be taken up to 10 mg at bedtime. There is not much cross tolerance with klonopin but actually may be additive effects. Would not suggest taking them together if not needed. Try the belsomra at the max dose prior to giving up. Ask your doc ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I took 4 ambien, (zolpidem) 3 klonopin and 3 zestoretic just so i could sleep, was it safe to mix those medications?
Dr just added 25 mg of trazadone for sleep...does this make sense rather than add ambien (zolpidem) or go up on klonopin?
Zolpidem is prescribed for sleep & Clonazepam is prescribed for anxiety or sleep. Between these, which causes more dizziness in day working hours?
I've been taking pills for sleep for a year. SometimesI Clonazepam but now I take Zolpidem for 3 months. I want to sleep normally. How to avoid pills?
Restoring sleep: You need a good behavioral sleep program to restore normal sleep rhythm. There is NO evidence that any of the sleep 'medicines' are appropriate for long-term (more than a few weeks) use. It may seem counterintuitive but usually the best treatment for insomnia is to focus on what you're doing while awake (exercise, no naps, healthy food/hydration, stress relief) and stop night caffeine alcohol ligh ...Read more
How long should a dr prescribe ambien (zolpidem)? I have been on it for almost 2 years. He just keeps changing the combo. Ambien/Trazadone; Ambien/Klonopin, etc
Is it dangerous to take 2 mg of klonopin, 10 mg of ambien (zolpidem) and 50 mg of trazodone all within a half hour in order to sleep? I'm a 140 lb woman.
Depends: Usually a doctor will not start with all three of those medications at that dosage. If the medication is being titrated up such dosages might be prescribed. SOmetimes Trazadone will be an even higher dosage. Hopefully you and your doctor will try to figure out why you are having trouble sleeping and psychotherapy might be considered. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sleep study: This is a potentially very dangerous combination of drugs affecting the brain. Have you had a sleep study done to find out the cause? Depression or anxiety is another cause for insomnia. I would certainly explore both avenues instead of continuing on this medication cocktail. Don't delay any further. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Talk to your doctor : You can try zolpidem instead. Your doctor may suggest other options as well such as Trazodone. Be aware that you can experience sleep walking or sleep eating while on zolpidem.
