The clotrimazole component is for fungus, as well as the other ointments you mentioned ...Read more
Not very helpful: Topical steroids are not very effective for hives due to the mechanism involved. Hives move around, so you will just end up chasing them with the cream. If steroid meds are needed, an oral one will go best. Mainstay for hives is antihistamines like benedryl or zyrtec (cetirizine). ...Read more

Herpes is viral infection, and your immune system needs support to fight it off. No No No No No: Clobetasol is one of the strongest topical cortisones we have. Maybe.: Desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) is zinc oxide, which has two principle purposes. It is very effective as a moisture barrier (hence used on a baby's bottom to prevent diaper rash) and as en effective sun block. There is some evidence that it results in a reduction in the production of sebum, the oil produced by our sebaceous skin glands. Therefore it may play a role in the treatment of acne. Yes: This question is very vague, but there are now many topical medications that are applied to the skin, get absorbed into the area, and work well without hardly any of the medicine being absorbed systemically. Very Little or Lots: The devil is in the details or in this case, the ingredients. Many anti-aging creams are merely snake oil as they will only moisturize skin, giving it a temporary look of improvement.
