Disciplines: A psychiatrist is first an md who learns about all of medicine and can diagnose medical conditions vs psychiatric and prescribe medicines. Psychologists study the mind and behavior and have expertise in research models and psychologic treatments. Social workers do similar but usally from a system perspective of the person in society and family. All can do therapy and may ofter helpful ideas. Read more

Perhaps, depends: Social worker typically is armed with more knowledge of community resources for your specific needs. Their work is more dedicated to getting you connected with resources. Technically a psych NP could also possess this knowledge but may not. The NP's work is more geared toward treatment. Read more

Amount of education: A clinical social worker has more education and clinical training than a mental health counselor. Typically a counselor has a ba in psychology or social work, while a clinical social worker usiually has a masters in social work and can get licensed to practice as a therapist (& accept insurance). Not enough space.: Clinical psychotherapist can be a psychiatrist, psychologist or social workers who passed a board of accreditation. A clinical social worker has a master's degree but also have to pass a licensing board. Depends on SW: Most sw's have knowledge of social programs on the state and federal level, however, this depends on the setting they work in. Hospital sw have more knowledge pertinent to hospitalized patients, whereas those working in the office setting have more of it for the patients they see. As far as government per say, they have no better knowledge than an average person should have. Not sure on finances. Read more
