It depends.: Tibial shaft fractures heal slowly, but even after the fracture heals it can take many months for a patient to get back to their baseline activity. PT may be in order: Physical therapy can address the gait issue with limping as this is likely related to muscle weakness.In addtion they can do soft tissue massage to alleviate the ankle swelling. Ask your orthopod: Only the doctor who has examined you and seen your x-rays can give you a good answer for your particular situation. It often takes 6-10 weeks before you are ready. If you put weight on it too on you risk more damage and an even longer stay in a cast. ...Read more

That being said, "most" tibia fractures heal by 6-8 weeks with resumption of unrestricted activities by 12 weeks, making your january ski schedule. Casts can cause-: -pressure sores on the heel, initially such pressure is painful, if progressive pressure remains it will lead 2 full thickness loss, then the pain goes away.
